Organized in January 1977, the objective of the Institute is to help the industry better and more profitably serve the Canadian feature film going public, by improving the quality of product and service in all sectors of the theatrical feature film industry including distribution, exhibition and promotion.
Activities include the organization of the annual Canadian Film Industry Seminar, as well as other provincial seminars throughout the year. A data bank will be established this year for the collection and circulation of information relating to the
production, financing, promotion, distribution and exhibition of feature films in Canada.

Wayne Cunningham Since 1970 the OFA has run an annual Film Showcase in March/April, providing a major marketplace for 16mm non-theatrical films. It is an opportunity for 16mm film producers/distributors to screen new films for public, regional and special collection film librarians, AV co-ordinators, media consultants, educators, film society representatives and personnel from government, business and industrial film agencies — all of whom purchase or recommend the purchase, rental or lease of films. OFA also sponsors the one week Grierson Film Seminar each June to view and discuss documentary films.
