A new category of participation in the MPIC has been created which provides an on-going analysis of the motion picture industry with regular mailings of news bulletins, press releases, schedules, financial analyses, briefs, press clips and other relevant documents dealing with new trends and developments in the Canadian and international film, television and communications communities. Associate membership is open to individuals and corporations involved in film or related areas. Over the last three years, activities have included various professional development seminars in production, co-production, audiovisual communications, marketing and feature film financing. The transcripts of the feature film financing seminar, held in 1979, have been published by the Institute and are generating orders from Canadian and international producers, filmmakers and financiers. A screenwriting competition is being organized to acknowledge the critical importance of quality screenwriting to the motion picture industry and to encourage and honour talented Canadian scriptwriters and on-the-job apprenticeship training programs will be launched in the near future to provide young Canadians with the opportunity of working with industry professionals on major independent and studio productions.
