Canadian Film Digest Year Book

Editors: Dan Krendel (1971-76), Patricia Thompson (1977-85)

Canadian Film Digest Year Book (1971-85) incorporated the Canadian professional film directory and was the annual handbook for Canadian Film Digest (1971-77), owned and published by Nat Taylor’s Film Publications of Canada, Ltd. Like the Digest’s continuation of Canadian Film Weekly (1942-70), the Digest Year Book continued the Canadian Film Weekly Year Book (1951-70). Initially edited by Dan Krendel, then Patricia Thompson, the Digest Year Book continued to 1986, a full decade after the Digest itself ceased publication. Thompson then purchased the business from Taylor and reincorporated as Cine-Communications, Inc., renaming the annual Film Canada Yearbook (1986-2007).

Receipts from admissions (excluding taxes) amounted to $311.4 million, an increase of 12.2% over the amount of $277.5 million reported in 1979. Receipts from regular motion picture theatres accounted for 87.1% of this amount. Amusement taxes decreased by 7% to $8.7 million from $9.3 million in 1979. The number of paid admissions was reported at 100.9 million, an increase of 2.8% from 1979.
