A Federation of representatives from the Association of Canadian Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA), the Directors Guild of Canada, the Canadian Film Editors Guild, the Association of Canadian Film Craftspeople and the Association des Professionnels du Cinema du Quebec.
Aims and Objectives:
(a) To unite the member Guilds and Unions in combined bargaining with common engagers of the members represented by the Guilds and Unions for the purpose of negotiating collective agreements.
(b) To co-ordinate the activity of the Guilds and Unions in seeking improved legislation and regulations that support the strengthening of a Canadian cultural industry and protect the job interests of the members of the Guilds and Unions in the Federation.
(c) To co-ordinate and unify mutually agreed upon specific organizational activity and services to members.
(d) To raise the standards of training and professional competence of the skills and talents of the categories of work represented by the Guilds and Unions in the Federations.

The I.F.A.C.I. was formed at the Yorkton International Film Festival November 6, 1980, and its aims are as follows:
1. to focus and co-ordinate independent film efforts;
2. to provide for continued communication in the form of a general assembly of representatives of member groups at least once a year.
The general assembly shall be:
a forum of communication and discussion among independent film groups
an opportunity for developing links, personal and filmic, between all cultural elements of the alliance
— a way for member groups to unite their voices on issues of common concernand to affiliate with other member groups in specific areas of concern
a means to promote a positive connection with film agencies and organizations in the government and private sectors.

Organized in January 1977, the objectives of the Institute are to serve the Canadian feature film-going public by improving the quality of product and services in all sectors of the Canadian theatrical feature film industry including directing, production, exhibition and distribution; to establish and maintain a flow of communication among all sectors of the industry; and to unify the industry.
A new category of participation in the MPIC has been created which provides an on-going analysis of the motion picture industry with regular mailings of news bulletins, press releases, schedules, financial analyses, briefs, press clips and other relevant documents dealing with new trends and developments in the Canadian and international film, television and communications communities. Associate membership is open to individuals and corporations involved in film or related areas.
