The International Animation Festival is held every second year in Ottawa.
The fifth Festival (Ottawa ’84), in addition to the intemationally adjudicated competition, will feature retrospectives and tribute programs. Special events are also arranged, and designed to advance the Art of Animation, and to create an environment where animators from around the world may gather in a true spirit of intemational communication and understanding.
Again, electronic and computer animation will play a major role in the Festival. In addition to competitive categories, workshops and demonstrations are planned.

Organized by the Centre du cinema Parallele, this non-competitive festival aims to seek out and promote the artistic, cultural and social values of current independent production, and to emphasize its importance.
The 1982 festival presented 124 short and
feature-length films and 47 video productions.
Fifty quest filmmakers also presented their films. A selection of films went on to Quebec City for the first edition of the festival there. The festival also provides a forum for exchange and discussion with the public.
In 1983 the festival takes place November 4-13 in Montreal, and November 14-20
in Quebec City.
THE ONTARIO FILM INSTITUTE AWARD
This Award for Excellence in Canadian Cinema is given annually to a film or film maker which best represents indigenous Canadian values in the cinema.
