Since 1970 the OFA has run an annual Film Showcase in March/April, providing a major marketplace for [6mm nontheatrical films. It is an opportunity for l6mm film producers/distributors to screen new films for public, regional and special collection film librarians, AV co-ordinators, media consultants, educators, film society representatives and personnel from government, business and industrial film agencies all of whom purchase or recommend the purchase, rental or lease of films. OFA also sponsors the Grierson Documentary Seminar as a forum for film and video makers and users to discuss trends and techniques in documentary films and periodic workshops and screening sessions to promote film awareness.

Each motion picture theatre in Canada, whether individual or a chain, is obligated to pay Performing Rights Organization of Canada Limited an annual licence fee for the right to perform music in its repertoire, or the repertoires of foreign performing rights organizations represented in Canada by PRO Canada. The licence fees have been collected from theatres on behalf of writers, composers and music publishers since 1966.
The fees collected must be approved annually by the Copyright Appeal Board in Ottawa. The courts uphold the fact that it is unlawful to operate a motion picture theatre in Canada without a PRO licence for the performance in Canada of its dramatico-musical works. Tariffs are printed in The Canada Gazette.
The following fees are up 4% over the 1984 fees:
Cinemas and Other Motion Picture Theatres
For a theatre licence covering operations at any time during the year, the annual fee is charged on seating capacity as follows:

The seating capacity of Drive-In Theatres shall be three times the maximum number of automobiles which may be accommodated at any one time.
Theatres operating three days or less per week shall pay one-half of the above rates. For theatres operating for less than 12 months in each year, the fee payable shall be reduced by 1/12th for each full month during the year in which no operations occur.
Minimum fee: $13.90
A licence obtained under this item of the tariff shall not be deemed to authorize any concert, recital of classical music or live performances when the exhibition of one or more films is not an integral part of the program. These performances shall be licensed under Item Number 5 of the tariff.

The Quickdraw Animation Society is a non-profit organization formed in Calgary in 1984. It aims to provide an atmosphere in which animation enthusiasts can gather to view and discuss animated films and to stimulate their artistic ideas. A variety of activities are planned for both the experienced and amateur animator animated films from around the world, animation film festivals, lectures, demonstrations and courses on specific animation techniques. It is hoped to bring out experts in the area to hold workshops which will be open to the general public. Information and resources are available, and a production unit has been organized which will plan, create and film short Super-8, 16mm and video cassette animated production. No previous animation experience is necessary, and the group is designed for the beginner, experienced amateur and the professional The Society meets once a month (except during summer months) and more often for those interested in production. Cooperation is planned with various other animation societies within Canada, and the organization of events with these groups on a national level
