The Canadian Film & Television Association (CFTA) was founded in 1948. CFTA has in excess of one hundred and seventy-five corporate members including production companies, commercial houses, animation studios, audio-visual specialists, laboratories, optical houses, videotape and sound recording studios, post-production facilities, distributors and suppliers to the industry.
CFTA represents over seventy-five per cent of Canada’s independent film, tape and slide production industry, in annual sales volume and numbers employed. CFTA members supply their production
and services to film and television broadcasting outlets in Canada and internationally, to advertising agencies, to private corporations and to government agencies. The Association is the representative voice of the private sector of this industry in Canada
CFTA maintains a close working relationship with the regional industry associations including Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association (AMPIA), Association des Producteurs de Films du Quebec (APFQ), British Columbia Film & Video Industry Association (BCFIA), Manitoba Film Producers Association (MFPA), Saskatchewan Association of Motion Picture Producers (SAMPP) and as of January 1, 1985, incorporates the membership of the national feature film organization Canadian Association of Motion Picture Producers (CAMPP).
CFTA and CAMPP share a secretariat and a national Executive Director in Toronto and appoint local representatives across the country.
