Film Service Week, Oct. 23rd. to Oct. 29th. Great preparations are being made to make this week one of the outstanding weeks of FILMDOM in Canada. Major Arbuthnot made the following statement. ‘‘I believe that the bookings on this week will break the record for all Special Weeks organized. The program we are offering Exhibitors is such a money-making one that no Exhibitor has any excuse for not sailing ‘‘over the top’’ with our attractions. All he has to do is to announce the title of our release, the public are already familiar with it and then start a campaign to get every dollar waiting for him to colleet, into his box-office. The programme is varied and complete, we can open the show and close it and every feature will hold up the interest of the patronage.’’ e e e os i HE Four Horsemen of the G Fim ser -Famous Players Apocalypse’’ opened at Massey Music Hall Monday night, Aug. 29th. It is an adaptation of Vicente Blasco Ibanez world read book of the same name. The Chicago News said of this picture, ‘‘Many pictures you can afford to miss, but not the Four Horsemen.’’ Night prices scheduled from 25 to $1.50, matinees 25 to $1.00. For the benefit of those who have found the title hard to pronounce we suggest the following, . Apock-a-lips. es Regent showing Bebe Daniels in ‘““Two Weeks With Pay’’ and Harold Lloyd in ‘‘Among Those Present,’’ week of August 22nd. “‘The Birth of a Nation,’’ opened at Allen’s Richmond Street Theatre, week of August 22nd. Coming week of Aug. 29th. ‘‘Mother O’ Mine,’’ Associated Producers’ production. @ eh6©°@ The Strand played for the week of Aug. 22nd, ‘‘Don’t Neglect Your Wife,’’ Mabel Julienne Scott was featured. In a coming Universal release ‘‘No Woman Knows,”’ the beau. tiful Miss Seott will again be featured. ‘: ee @ R. SAM SMITH, London, manager of the Allen Theatre Enterprises, and Foreign purchaser for The Altens, is in Tor onto, having arrived from London last week. ‘@ Page Two O ; *Taconte Notes R. PHIL KAUFFMAN will M have charge of the releasing of the Select pictures, as usual, and in addition it has been reported that he will take care of the distribution of all the Famous-Players Film Service releases with Mr. Rosenfeld. We congratulate the Famous-Players Film Service on this acquisition to their forces. They do not make them more competent and efficient in the Distribution End than Phil Kauffman. eo @ @ “The Lone Wolf’s Daughter,’’ with Louise Glaum, played Loew's week of August 22nd. ee Pantages showed Charles Ray in ‘‘Peaceful Valley,’’ and Harold Lloyd in ‘‘Among Those Present,’’ e e e Mr. Lent, Manager of the Dundas Playhouse gave his theatre on Thursday, August 25th. matinee to the European orphans who recently arrived in Toronto for adoption. The Regal Films contributed ‘‘The Kid,’’ which proved an ideal picture and the little orphans wept with Jackie Coogan and rejoiced in his newfound happiness. . Now how did Jake Berman get mixed up with horse-races when he was so busy selling pictures? Ask Jake he is a wonder at being able to work and play at the same time. Jake when seen was heard to sigh, ‘‘When you want to place a bet and a friend comes along at the cleventh hour and whispers ‘the good thing’ kill him on the spot without mercy.”’ And Jake is such a gentle, kindhearted Film Salesman. e There is a rumor that The Associated First National may add, from the Associated Producers, to their list of producers. s ee Another rumor states that the Canadian Exhibitors’ Exchange have a contract to release Hodkinson Pictures up to Jan. 1922, and intend to see that this contract is adhered to. Must be good pictures when they are willing to put up a fight for them. eee THEATRE MANAGER—Experienced, 28 years old, wants position as Moving Picture Theatre manager. Has had no Picture Experience. Willing to start right away. Go anywhere. State terms. P. F. ie 560 Church St., Toronto. aie | Canada”’ will run ‘‘The Af fairs of Anatol’’ on the same day and date. A regulation form of a summons for speeding with the necessary modifications was utilized. Upon receiving this summons motorists were relieved to read that the summons commanded them to appear at the Capitol Theatre and pay their admission for one performance of ‘Too Much Speed.’’ The summons worked like a miracle, everybody enjoyed the joke, and the performance, including Messrs. Arthur and Dunlop responsible for the idea. R. VENNETT of the Specialty Film, objeets to being turned into an Italian, with all due respect to this particular race of people. The Digest through a typographical error added an ‘“‘I”’ to the end of his name. When seen Mr. Vennett appeared to be in good health, and particularly jovial so that we conclude no serious consequences resulted from our misspelling. It may be the wedding, of Miss Estelle Kennedy, Sept. 28th. that is the inspiration for the geniality. Somebody told us that Archie Laurie of the Specialty was going to get married also, as Mr. Larivee, Director of Publicity Department for Specialty, Montreal so aptly said in a letter to us, in reference to another matter, ‘‘Another Frenchman gone wrong.”’ The Regent is showing week of August 29th, ‘‘The Foolish Matrons,’’ from the novel by Donn Byrne. A story with three heroines. Last week Regent showed ‘‘ Wanda Hawley”’ in ‘‘The House That Jazz Built,’’ Regal release and Lyman Howe's Runaway Train, Educational release.
