LUPINO LANE, ENGLISH COMEDIAN, APPEARS IN “THE REPORTER”
Aro 20 has been designated by
Fox Film Corporation as release day for the first Lupino Lane special comedy to be produced in America, according to a statement from the New York offices of the organization.
“The Reporter,” the title of the two-reel feature fun picture, promises to introduce a distinct individuality in the constellation of screen luminaries. Lupino Lane, who is a Londoner and a member of the renowned Lane family of pantomimists, was engaged by William Fox early this year, following the spectacular success of the comedian in the leading mirth-making role of “Afgar,” the Morris Gest production which startled Broadway for many months following its premiere in December of last year.
Before appearing in America, Lane was the idol of the London Hippodrome and Drury Lane, where at various times in his meteoric career he has been featured in such productions as “Little Johnny Jones,” “The League of Notions,” “Watch Your Step,” “Follow The Crowd,” and “We're All In It.”
So remarkable was his performance in the Gest presentation in New York, that American newspaper reviewers of one accord classed him as “a comedian with a new and refreshing spirit who promises to eclipse the work of America’s foremost fun pantomimists.”
“The Reporter” is the first of a series of three special two-reelers which will be ready for distribution during the early part of the 1922-23 season. The other two are “My Hero” and ‘The Pirate,” release dates for which have not been named. The three produc

Each vehicle possesses a brand of humor it is said by those who have seen it. that will at once make popular a unique screen personality.
In his first release, Lane is cast as an American newspaper correspondent on the battle front of a Kaleidoscopic Mexican revolution. His difficulties with the bold, bad villian, who plans to marry a beautiful senorita, are especially clever.
Lane's addition to the Fox fold will mark the fifth brand of comedy production by this producer, exclusive of the Mutt and Jeff Animated Cartoon. They are Clyde Cook Specials, Al St. John Comedies, Sunshine Comedies znd Lee Kids Comedies. ‘Thus Fox Tilm Corporation offers the exhibitor one of the most formidable line-up of short reel comedies ever placed on the market.
