Comedy and Drama Keep Interest at Fever Pitch in Dicken’s Best Loved Story.
A full sweep of comedy intermingled with drama of the romantic sort that keeps one’s nerves tingling and on the tiptoe of expectancy are to be found in the wonderfully-conceived and finely-produced picture version of the nevel that Charles Dickens wrote and which he loved the best of all his works, “David Copperfield.” With a happy blend of genuine comedy and dramatic interest, the motion picture audiences of the country are assured of a genuine treat. “David Copperfield,” as presented upon the screen, not only adheres closely to the original Dickens script, but brings all his beloved characters into delightful, animated shape.
While the romance of David Copperfield is perhaps too well known to need recounting in this issue, a brief synopsis is herewith presented that can be used by the exhibitor for reference purposes.
No greater love existed than that between the boy, David Copperfield, and his mother. Ten years of great ‘love. His mother married Mr. Murdstone. Resentment appeared natural for David when his stepfather floggedhim. His mother died. David was taken from school and forced to go to work in Murdston’s factory. The

boy’s only friends were Peggotty, the Copperfield servant, and Mr. Micawber, who was a penniless character, always “waiting for something to turn up.” David ran away from the factory and went to his aunt, Betsy Trotwood, who adopted him.
A new happiness came into his life. He met Mr. Wickfield and his sweet daughter, Agnes. He also met Uriah Heep, the Wickfield clerk, who turned out to be a miserly, unscrupulous individual who also longed to marry Agnes.
From law to writing, David Copperfield turned his,bent and became a great success. He met Dora Spenlow. Love at first sight. The affable and clever David plied his suit. They were married. More happiness for David until Dora became very ill and died.
For solace and comfort David turned to his old loyal friends. Mr. Micawber was always ready to. lend a cheering hand. Agnes came back into his life. Also the wily Uriah Heep.
Just when poverty and want were about to seize his estimable aunt, who had entrusted her property to the Wickfield ‘offices, Mr. Micawber proves a marvelous sleuth and good friend by revealing Uriah Heep in his true colors as a thief and forger.

When Miss Winnifred Blair “Miss Canada” was in Boston as a guest of the Boston Canadian Club, she was accompanied by Mrs. Walter H. Golding, wife of the manager of the Imperial theatre, St. John, N.B. Miss Blair was entertained at a delightful function by the Kieth interests in Boston. She was the nominee of the Imperial theatre, St. John, for “Miss St. John” before being selected as Miss Canada.
Authors Collaborate on an Epic of the West
Frances Marion and Kenneth B. Clark, noted authors and_ scenario writers, are collaborating on the continuity of “Sundown,” Earl J. Hudson’s epic of the cattle country which is to be made by First National in Mexico. Atmospheric scenes, showing the driving of huge herds of cattle from the Southwestern states into Mexico, have already been taken. The picture, presenting a story of today, is to be filmed on a most extensive scale. .
