B. O. Sales Department. “The Isle of Hope,” Richard Talmadge’s fifth production for F. B. O. distribution will also be released on August 16th. A. Morrison. Mr. H. J. Coleman, of the Coleman Electric Company, 21 Dundas St. E., Toronto, will instal two of the Motiongraph De Luxe Projectors. By all appearances the Weston Theatre will be equipped in every way second to none. This is why Mr. J. A. Morris‘n has placed h’s order with the Coleman Electric Company as_ he knows he will get a “square deal.” FIRST CLASS PROJECTIONIST wishes position, go anywhere, at present time holding first-class certificate for Alberta, also expert stage electrician, non-union. GUY EF. McALLAN LANDGON, ALTA., Canada. OBJECT TO “SILENCE” (Continued from Page Three.) to have such signs greet them. If one is to have signs why not the kind which starts your patron off feeling kindly disposed to your theatre, such as “Thank you for coming.” “Silence” starts an irritability, you know how people resent being commanded. It may be that in more vulgar surroundings the “jar” would not be so noticeable, and while I am in a critical mood may I say that the “divertissements” were most enjoyable. The orchestral numbers were a joy, the ballet nicely timed, the number by that lyrical coloratura soprano excellent, but the whole presentation just about onethird too long and too much. Universal’s “Siege” was the picture presented. It was worth the price of admission by itself. Mary Alden thrilled me. What character that woman has in her face and what powers of expression. I am not going to involve myself in a review which would entail tributes to Universal, the author, director, the players and to you for your excellent judgment in selecting pictures of “real merit.” The Capitol will miss your master-hand when you are gone and I fear, to the disadvantage of the Capitol, your patronage will follow you to “THE, ROXY.” As we go to press we hear that the one theatre is developing into a chain. —RAY LEWIS. McNeil of Smith Falls Holds Dances Rideau Theatre Manager McNeil of the Rideau Theatre, Smith Falls, Ontario, made a special play for patronage during the Old Home Week celebration which was conducted in Smith Falls. He gained a real slice of business despite numerous counter-attractions by staging a number of novelties and putting over good advertising. One feat was the holding of dances on the stage of the theatre for two hours after the close of regular night performances without extra charge to the patrons of the house, the house orchestra being engaged to provide special music for the occasion. Features booked included ‘The Dixie Handicap,” “Zeebrugge,” the British naval picture, and ‘“Charley’s Aunt. Frederick Kennedy Myton, scenario editor of the F. B. O. Studios, is at work for Evelyn Brent, according to B. P. Fineman, general manager of the Hollywood plant. Mr. Myton has written the scripts for several of Miss Brent’s most successful vehicles, the last of which “Smooth as Satin” last week played at the Capitol Theatre, New York, largest show house in the © world.
