A SPIRIT of utmost friendship pervaded the Christmas Party held by the Film and Theatre interests at the Admiral Beatty Hotel in Saint John, It was the unanimous opinion that such an affair should be held annually. Much credit was ascribed the committee, Miss Doris Selick (M-G-M), Miss Bernice Pitts (B & |. Theatres), Sammie Knutzky (United Artists), H. Mathers (Empire-Universal), H. Cohen (R-K-O) and Walter Golding (Community Theatre), who were responsible for this gala event. Sam Knutzky acted as M.C. and brief speeches were made by M. Bernstein (B & L, Theatres), A. A. Fielding, H. H. McArthur, Walter Golding, Miss Irene Malloy, representing F. G. Spencer Co. Ltd., Harry Cohen and H. Mathers for the Exchanges, E. J. Tagg for Dominion Sound, Mitchael Franklin, F. H. Circuit, Alice Fairweather for the Digest and others. The dinner was excellent, the cocktails delicious, and following a snappy floor show by Mrs. Dora Breau’s Concert Party, headed by Malcolm MacGowan, cards and dancing were enjoyed. Mrs. Breau supplied music during the banquet. Messrs. Harrison Howe, manager of the Capitol Theatre (Famous Players) and B. Gates, assistant manager, sent regrets at their inability to attend, as they were tied up with the stage show which .was held that afternoon and evening at the Capitol. x Ok Ox The fight pictures, distributed

A new company has been formed. To be called “The Franklin Service Company” the aim is to supply the theatres of the Franklin-Herschorn Chain with confectionary in the various centres where their theatres operate. Members of the Company are Mitchael Franklin, Peter Herschorn and Samuel Babb. The employees of the F-H Circuit will participate in a co-operative manner. In the future, it is planned that, at the new Vogue Theatre being erected at Halifax for the Circuit, an up-to-date snack bar and soda fountain will be installed.

Jack Bellamy, manager of International Film Distributors at Saint John, N.B., with his wife and baby, is spending the Holiday season at Toronto with relatives.

Warner Bros. office at Saint John, report that the Pathe News, which will be released on January 9th, will be shown at the Capitol Theatre, Saint John.
Bob Middleton, salesman for R-K-O, left Saint John for a wedding date in Montreal where Miss June Allan became Mrs. Middleton. The honeymoon was spent in New York.
x ok ok ‘Donald Wolfit and his English Company produced “Twelfth Night” and “King Lear” at the Capitol Theatre, Saint John, and splendid audiences greeted the players. Mr. Wolfit paid a high tribute to the appreciation of the audiences toward his production; the excellence of the construction of the building for audition and the fine cooperation of all members of the Capitol Theatre staff, especially the stage hands. The theatre resumed its screen programme the following day and showed “Cynthia” as the feature with a special Christmas cartoon, “Santa Claus Surprise”.
x Ok x The new theatre opened by J. K. Pigeon at Kennington, P.E.I., is now operating. It is called the Cameo, the name of a. theatre which was in operation there previously, x * x Rumour has it that a new theatre -is planned for Kentville, N.S. There are already two theatres of the F.G. Spencer Co. Ltd. operating at Kentville, one of which runs continually while the second is open occasionally or for Special events. » « x Cards have been received by Maritime friends of Leo Devaney, general sales manager of R-K-O, and lus wife who are spending a vacation cruise to the West Indies. xk Ok In Saint John recent visitors have been Mr. and Mrs. V. McLaughlin of the Opera House, Newcastle, N.B.; Charles Staples of the Queen Theatre, St. Stephen, N.B.; Mrs. Mitchell of the new theatre at Port Elgin, which will open the first of the year and J. Friends of A. I. Garson, Odeon representative for the Maritimes, will be glad to learn that he is recovering from an operation held ina New York Hospital and will be able to return home to Saint John very shortly,

Joe Lieberman, of the B & L, Theatres, has been elected president of the congregation Shaarei Zedek at Saint John. Joe is a past president of the local Habonim Lodge, past regional vice-president of the Maritime Habonim Lodge, director of the Young Men's Hebrew Association and Maritime chairman of the United Jewish Refugee Relief Agencies. Mr. Lieberman has been widely known for his community spirit, and his help in any patriotic or charitable effort is never sought in vain.

International Films Hold Sales Meetings
David Griesdorf, president and general manager of International Film Distributors Limited, has just returned from New York after a week of sales meetings discussing forthcoming Kagle-Lion (Hollywood) product with A. W. Schwalberg, vice-president and general sales manager of Eagle-Lion (Hollywood) Films.
At a meeting of Eastern Branch managers of International Film Distributors, held in Toronto, Saturday, December 27th, attended by Jack Bellamy, St. John; Gerald Chernoff, Montreal; and Irving Cohen, Toronto; Mr. Griesdorf announced the release schedule of the next block of pictures which comprise seven Eagle-Lion (Hollywood) features and two Edward Small re-issues,
Mr. Griesdorf left Friday, January 2nd for a three week trip to Western Canada where he will hold individual sales meetings to discuss forthcoming Eagle-Lion (Hollywood) and Pathe (British) product at each of the company’s branch offices in Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver.
“Jolson Story” Sequel To Be Produced By M-G-M
Following completion of negotiations between Louis B. Mayer and Al Jolson, it was announced that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer will bring to the screen a sequel to “The Jolson Story” to be produced by Edwin Knopf.
Jolson will work directly with Knopf on an original story based on further colorful and exciting incidents from his life, and will be associated in the preperation and filming of the production. He will sing and record many of the songs he made famous and popularized during his many years as one of America’s greatest entertainers.
