CANADIAN SOCIETY OF CINEMATOGRAPHERS 22 Front Street West, Toronto, Ontario M5J 1C4 (416) 363-4321 The Canadian Society of Cinematographers was founded in 1957 by a group of veteran cinematographers from Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. It is the only organization in Canada that represents the interests of cinematographers exclusively. Its aims are: 1 To promote and foster cinematography in Canada. 2 To develop and promote the interests of Canadian cinematographers. 3 To provide membership with technical and other information for the improvement of their knowledge, work and status. 4 To function towards the achievement of these purposes free from all partisan political, jabour-management and other issues not related to these stated aims. For over eighteen years, more than 240 ‘cinematographers and assistant cameramen have become members of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers. The Society founded the magazine ‘‘Canadian Cinematography” which later became “’Cinema Canada” and now, published independantly, is considered Canada’s foremost film magazine. Members of the Society have always been very active participants at meetings of the Canadian Film Awards, the Canadian Film Development Corporation, the Society of Film Makers and other groups in the film community. ins
