Through meetings held on the first Monday of
each month, September through May, the
executive strives to have interesting and informative discussions on current and new equipment,
new techniques and problems that may affect professional cinematographers.
Several members are instructors at universities and colleges across Canada and the Society periodically organizes special classes for assistant cameramen and others interested in learning
the essentials of cinematography.
By active and financial support to the CSC, professional cinematographers are able to make their collective voices heard when problems arise in the film industry and possibly find mutually acceptable remedy.
Each year the CSC holds an awards function and trophies are presented, to members only, in the following categories:

In addition, and not necessarily each year, the Bill Hilson Award (a miniature Arriflex) is presented to a member of the CSC who has performed outstanding service to the Society or has made a special contribution to the art
of cinematography. Also, members have won international recognition and awards including the coveted ‘Oscar.’
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the CSC is divided into the following categories:
AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP The applicant must be professionally employed as an assistant cameraman or camera operator or be active ina field directly related to cinematography such as teaching or studying cinematography at a recognised Canadian institution of learning. Affiliate members have no voting privileges
and are not permitted to serve on the board of directors. They have the right, and are encouraged to attend, all membership meetings and may serve on committees.
