The Bell Rings At Long Last
After almost three years of preparation and production, the long-awaited world premiere of “Hor Whom the Bell Tolls” will take place at the Rivoli Theatre in New York City on Wednesday evening, July 14, Barney Balaban, president of Paramount Pictures, announced.
The New York engagement of the screen version of Ernest Hemingway’s epic novel will be the only showing in the New York area this year.
Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman head the cast of “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” which is the most ambitious undertaking in Paramount’s history.
Mr. Balaban also disclosed that “Wor Whom the Bell Tolls” will be shown at the Rivoli on a twoa-day, reserved seat policy. Advanced prices, $1.10 to $2.20, evenings, and $1.10 to $1.65, matinees will be in effect. Paramount has leased the Broadway house and will operate it for the length of the picture’s engagement.
