Sam Glazer of Columbia called to say that the person described as being Hy Rotenberg wasn’t. He knew him but couldn’t remember his name. Also the man on the right end of the back row, whose photo was accompanied by a question mark, was the late Frank Meyers, he said. Next Zeke Sheine called to tell me that the person wrongly described as Rotenberg was his old boss Charlie Bailey, who once owned the Astor Theatre and the Dundas Playhouse. Morrie Rittenberg dropped in right after that and confirmed the Bailey correction but explained that the person Sam Glazer called Frank Meyers wasn’t. He was Mr. Kagen, who was running the Ideal Theatre in 1926, the year the photo was taken. Others dropped in or phoned, all of them wanting to help straighten out the Rotenberg error. He must be a popular guy. Typodermic Injections The four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Altman, who is a nephew of Sam Fine, won the resent Hadassah baby contest... Morrie Sasloff, manager of the Broadway, went to see “Anna Lucasta” while in New York and Joan Crawford sat in front of him. After being momentarily thrilled Mr. Sasloff discovered that Miss Crawford’s hair-do was high and he wasn’t and never the twain would meet. He kept trying to see between Miss Crawford and her husband on one side, then between Miss Crawford and her neighbor on the other. The actress soon became aware of Saaloff’s poking and peeking and probably thinking he was an adoring fan trying to get a close look, turned around and gave him that big smile. But he still didn’t have the nerve to ask her to slide down a little . . . Harry Coleman and Coleman Electric have moved from Victoria Street to the only structure standing across from the Hermant Building at 21 Dundas Square. He’s one of the nicest fellows in these parts and I thought you'd like to know where he is in case you tried the old address. Observanda Sam Smith, who went back to Britain from Canada to become a power there, was 57 when he died recently . . . Mayor Floyd Rumford of Forest, Ontario, operator of the Kineto Theatre and an officer of the MPTAO, drove the trotter Bendona at the local fair in a four-horse race and came fourth. But Floyd had fun... Andree, daughter of Hamilton’s George Stroud, was married recently to Captain James Howard Bellenie ... Joe Paul, now manager of the Esquire, Brantford, is regarded with great affection in Welland, where he managed the Park. On being transferred the rest of the theatre community gave a dinner in his honor at which he was presented with a tri-lite desk lamp. Mr. and Mrs. Paul were also honored by the Jewish community, which gathered in the synagogue and presented Mrs. Paul with a pendant and Joe with some luggage. He’s a grand lad... Tom Murray, who was assistant at the Park, Welland, now occupies the same post at the Esquire, Brantford ... Bill Bailley dropped a V.L.S.E. product book of 1910 on my desk the other day after my request. V.L.S.E., known as “The Big Four,’ meant Vitagraph, Lubin, Selig and Essanay. Features were from four to ten reels and among the stars was Antonio Garrido Monteagudo Moreno. Must have been before marquees. One of the features was Charlie Chaplin’s four-reel burlesque of Carmen. Don’t remember that one among the reissues, revivals or exhunations. _ Justice Foiled “T am quite willing to play Dr. Watson to Mr. Len Bishop’s Sherlock Holmes,” writes Jack Stone, manager of the Victory, Mission, B.C. “Last night two youngsters, who had held up and robbed another of $3.35 collected from papers, hid out in the theatre here. In true Bishop style I had two policemen wait at the two lobby aisle entrances whilst I went in to get the two ‘bandits.’ After locating them and getting them to start after me down the aisle I'll be darned if they didn’t head for the rear exits and get away. Later, with absolutely no help from me, the local authorities were able to catch them. “My face is still red. Their ages were 11 and 12 respectively.” Page 13 Joins Kid Loop HILLIARD CONWAY Formerly manager of the Colony, Toronto, he has joined — Tom Bowyer as assistant in national organization of Odeon Movie Clubs for Young Canadians.
