November 28, 1945 20th Mars Club Well Under Way Al Perly, manager of the Midtown, was recently elected president of the newly formed Twentieth Century Theatre Managers’ Club in Toronto, at its first meeting in the Royal York Hotel. Managers of the circuit’s 21 houses in the Queen City are members of the club. Functions of the group, outlined by Perly at the meeting, will include the following aims and activities: (1) the organization of social recreational activities for the managers; (2) the establishment of high ethical standards in all matters pertaining to the managers’ calling; (3) establishment of the ideal of service as a basis of all worthy activity; (4) development of broad acquaintanceships as an opportunity for service and an aid to success; (5) interchange of ideas and business methods as a means of increasing the efficiency and usefulness of each member; (6) establishment of closer friendliness and better understading with the employers, as well as mutual assistance in problems concerning the managers or the motion picture business; (7) any other worthy object which may be considered sufficiently important to be included in the activities of the club. Speaking on the question of employer employee relationship, Perly pointed out that the club will not resemble a union and is not to be considered as such. It is nevertheless hopes that some concessions will be granted by the employers. Monthly luncheon meetings will be the highlight of the club’s activities. A benevolent and visiting committee will be appointed to visit members who may be ill.
