Montreal Wins Mono Billings Drive
Montreal led the Monogram billings contest, which began February 8th and continued for 21 weeks, with Toronto second and Winnipeg third. The aim of the drive was twofold, being based on both sales and billings. In addition each branch was offered 10 per cent on the liquidation of product sold during the 1945-46 season and earlier, a quota having been set.. Vancouver and Winnipeg earned extra money by besting the quota of unplayed committments.
Led by Sam Jacobs, the Montreal branch collected $250 of the $500 billings money. Toronto captained by Frank Vaughan and with Irving Stern assisting, won $150 and Winnipeg, headed by Joe McPherson, got $100.
The runners-up were L. I. Michelson, Saint John; H. Page, Vancouver; and F. Scott, Calgary.
CAPAC Sues Sask'n Theatre Owner
The Composers, Authors and Publishers Association of Canada, Limited, has entered action in a Saskatchewan court against F. W. Falkner, owner of the Falkon Theatre in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. The association asks for damages and for an injunction for alleged copyright infringements, claiming that unauthorized use has been made of music composed by clients of CAPAC,

Novelists Hans Habe and Michael Blankforthave been assigned to script “The Children” for United States Pictures from Peter Viertel’s story.
Yonson Secretary Of General Th. Supply
Cliff Yonson has left his post at the head office of Famous Players, where he was assistant chief accountant under Bill Kerr, to become secretary of General Theatre Supply Company, Limited, Toronto, Peter D. Brown announces. The latter company is a subsidiary of the former. He succeeds Willis Davis, with General Theatre Supply since 1939.
Yonson joined the organization in 1918 as treasurer of the Regent Theatre and in 1919 was transferred to head office when the Paramount Theatres Company was established. Later in 1919 the Pantages, now the Imperial, was opened and Yonson went there as assistant manager and. treasurer,
He left the company to live in New York and returned to it in 1924 as assistant auditor, moving into the post just vacated by him when the department was reorganized in 1930.

Warner Brothers’ Canadian district manager, branch managers and salesmen will attend the first of two sales conferences set by Ben Kalmenson, vice-president and general sales manager, for the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York, July 31st to Aug. 2nd.
Jules Lapidus, eastern and Canadian division sales manager, will also attend the New York meeting.

UK Commons Passes Tax On Grosses
The British House of Commons, in spite of vigorous apposition from the motion picture industry, approved the amendment to the Finance Act of 1935. This will permit the exchequer under Hugh Dalton to impose a percentage tax on the earnings of imported films at the boxoffice as customs duty. The present tax is five cents per foot ad valorem.
Fined For Abuses Of Amusement Tax Act
Rexford Ostrander, propietor of the Rex Theatre, Lucknow, Ontario, a 16mm. situation, was
‘ fined $450 and costs or three
months in ‘local police court recently by Magistrate Otto McClevis on charges of infractions of the Dominion Amusement Tax Act.
Testimony revealed that Ostrander had failed to make proper returns and over a period of time had not forwarded the correct information regarding the number of his patrons and had otherwise misrepresented facts of concern to the government.
