MGM Pic Shooting
Shooting is under way at the British MGM studios on “Edward, My Son,” starring Spencer Tracy and Deborah Kerr.
~ OCHS’ GROUP PREPS 3 DRIVE-INS
The Northwest drive-in theatre, built by Drive-in Theatres, the group headed by Herb Ochs of Cleveland, opened outside Toronto, near Malton, last week with a capacity of 750 cars.
The group’s Ottawa drive-in is due to open any day, while others in Peterborough and Oshawa are expected to open late this month. Site for another Toronto drive-in on the Bathurst highway has been in the company’s hands for quite some time
but no action has been taken.
Completion of the projects will bring the Ochs’ group’s holdings to five in Ontario and a total of 22 in the USA and here.
Sunset Theatre Company, which recently opened a drive-in near Brantford, Ontario, has opened another in the Galt-Guelph
Preston-Hespeler area.
Film Councils Against Any NEB Curtailment
The Ontario Association of Film Councils has sent a brief to the Hon. J. J. McCann, revenue minister and senior officer of the National Film Board, voicing its opposition to any curtailment in the _ services rendered by the NFB.
The association, which represents groups of citizens from all over Ontario and headed by Cc. J. Fitzgerald of Kirkland Lake, urged the minister to see that “film sources and distributive services presently provided by agencies of the -Dominion Government be maintained and extended.”
20th-Fox RCMP Film Starts In October
Shooting on 20th Century-Fox’ $2,000,000 feature film about the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will begin in October. Producer will be Samuel G. Engel, who made “Sitting Pretty.” Jerry Cady will write the script.
Colonel F. G. Scott, deputy commissioner of the RCMP, will go to Hollywood as _ technical adviser.
