B. C. Symphony Orchestra London Symphony Orchestra BRAILOWSKY, ALEXANDER, Pianist Genius combined with hu¬ mility — such is the personality of the distinguished pianist, Alexander Brailowsky. Pos¬ sessed of a technique matched by few pianists, he subordi¬ nates it to his vital and musicianly approach. Mr. Brailowsky was born in Kiev, in southern Russia. For¬ tunately his father, a musician of achievements, was quick to recognize the boy's extraor¬ dinary talents and supervised his early pianisfic training and studies at the Kiev Conserva¬ tory. His progress was amaz¬ ing and at the age of thirteen he was taken to Vienna to become a pupil of the great Leschetizky. Upon the outbreak of the First World War, the Brailowskys moved to Switzerland, and there the young artist came under the influence of the famed pianisf, Ferruccio Busoni, who took a proprietary interest in Brailowsky's career. A second move settled the family in France, where a formal debut recital created such a sensation in Parisian musical circles that offers of engagements began to pour in from all the capitals of Europe. Since then his career has been an uninterrupted succession of triumphs. In addition to his versatile talent for performing the works of other com¬ posers, Brailowsky is chiefly the Chopin specialist. Twelve times he has undertaken the stupendous task of presenting the entire 169 works of Chopin in a series of six recitals. These recitals have taken him to Europe and South America, and he has been acclaimed by our Latin neighbors as their favorite concert artist. His title, "One of the world's greatest Chopin players," is sheer understatement.
