Khadarick, Baritone Soloist 12" Record No. 11-8152 1.00 DORATI, ANTAL, Conductor The internationally known conductor, Antal Dorati, is chiefly responsible for the great rebirth of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, which was reorganized in the late summer of 1945 in one of the most ambitious projects ever assembled in the Southwest. Mr. Dorati, the youngest student ever to graduate from the Academy of Music in Budapest, lists among his teachers the late Bela Bartok, Zoltan Kodaly and Lee Weiner. At the age of eighteen he was appointed conductor at the Budapest Royal Opera House. Today he has made repeated appearances with the leading operatic and symphonic orchestras. In spite of his comparative youth (he is only 41) Antal Dorati can review an unusually brilliant and impressive career. Director of the Munster Opera House in 1929, and of the Rumanian Ballet in 1934, Dorati conducted the original Ballet Russe for ten years. After a five-year term as musical director of the Ballet Theatre, he was engaged as the conductor of the yet-io-beorganized Dallas Symphony Orchestra. This organization was originally started in 1901 and, with the exception of several sabbatical seasons, has played continuously since then. During the war its activities were suspended DORATI, ANTAL, Conductor (Continued) for three years, but not long after they were revived. Funds and players were all recruited on a major scale and within a few weeks rehearsals began. The first performance took place in December, 1945. From then on the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, under its tireless, highly skilled and musically sound conductor, Antal Dorati, has given concerts of a quality and a range of music hardly duplicated elsewhere. The excellence of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra was immediately recognized by RCA Victor's alert musical scouts, and to date this group has made impressive contributions to the Red Seal label.
