Lo RCA VICTOR RED SEAL RECORDS Ma LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (Continued) ZIGEUNERWEISEN, Op. 20, No. 1 (Gypsy Airs) Sarasate Jascha Heifetz, Violinist, with the London Symphony Orchestra, John Barbirolli, Conductor 12" Record No. 15246 1.00 LOWE, JACK, Pianist See Whittemore, Arthur, and Jack Lowe, Duo-pianists LUBOSHUTZ, PIERRE, AND GENIA NEMENOFF, Duo-pianists The beloved duo-piano team of Luboshutz and Nemenoff is the out¬ growth of their meeting in Paris in 1929, and their marriage, two years later, in America. Both had been renowned solo artists: Pierre Luboshutz, Russian-born, had appeared throughout Europe in recital; Genia Nemenoff, Parisian-born of Russian parents, had an enviable career as a solo artist. Slender and dark¬ eyed, she had gone to Pierre for advanced study. As he himself put it, "At her first lesson, I was impressed by her talent. At the second, I was im¬ pressed by her personality. And by the third, I knew I was in love with her." There is scarcely a city in the world that has not acclaimed this team, and scarcely a symphony orchestra that has not featured them. In addition to their artistry as performers, they have done much to enrich the two-piano literature — both by rediscovering many fine compositions and by special ar¬ rangements created by Mr. Luboshutz himself. He was born in the little town of Rathkeale, County Lim¬ erick, in 1922. Like so many of his profes¬ sion, Christopher began his career by singing in the church choir. At twenty, he created his first notable suc¬ cess, on the stage of the Sa¬ voy Theatre in Limerick. Then came serious study with Dr. O'Brien, teacher of the late McCormack. Various tutors supplied the necessary Italian and Irish folk songs, and Christopher himself followed up with vacations in the Irish-speaking districts of Eire for further study in pronunciation. When the late McCormack heard him at a concert in London, the begin¬ ning of a most important association for the young man was formed. It was McCormack who taught him during the last years of his life, and it soon became evident that the young Irish troubadour was to continue in the tradition of his illustrious predecessor. Through McCormack's efforts, Chris¬ topher was to sign his RCA Victor contract, and if was McCormack who started negotiations for his American concert career. Final instruction came from the well-known Signor Morelli, to whom Chris¬ topher went in Italy before further pursuing a concert career. With his first Firestone Hour appearance on September 30, 1 946, America took him to her heart — and she's just as proud, if possible, as his native Ireland! Born in Philadelphia of Scotch ancestry. Miss MacDon¬ ald was given voice and danc¬ ing lessons when only a child. She made her first public ap¬ pearance at a charity ball when she was four years old, and at five began touring during the summer as the main star of a children's revue. This dancing career continued for several years, but the money she earned thereby was invested in singing lessons. For her, dancing was only a means to an end— the shining goal of singing stardom. The first fruits of success came to her through Broadway musical comedies, 472
