INCE the last edition of the Victor Catalog there have been not only S important additions to the great library of Victor recorded music, but there have been definite and progressive improvements in the art of recording, which should make the music listed here of even greater interest. The promise of steady improvement in recording suggested in the previous edition of the catalog has been kept. The improvements extend not only to the music itself but to mechanical features, such as surface quality, as well. There has been made available to the public a number of record accessories
which should in the first place make it possible for more people to enjoy
recorded music, and in the second, to increase the enjoyment of those who already know the wonderful quality of modern recording.
The RCA Victor Duo Jr.
The RCA Victor Duo Jr. is one of the most important of recent developments in the field of recorded music. It brings records within the reach of anyone who owns a modern radio receiver, and this it accomplishes at an extremely low price. Housed in its attractive walnut finish chest, measuring only 107” long, 8” deep and 5” high, this little instrument consists of an electrically driven constant-speed turntable capable of playing either tenor twelveinch records; and a modern electrical pick-up. It operates on standard household current and can easily be attached to almost any kind of radio set, and will reproduce records with all the tone fidelity of that set. Because of its size and portability, it is particularly adapted to remote control operation. Records may be played and the volume controlled from the listener’s armchair at a distance from the radio. Many people who do not at the moment feel able to invest in a large modern phonograph can, by means of this ingenious and inexpensive little instrument, have the pleasure of recorded music through the facilities of their radio.
Home Recording Blanks
Pre-grooved record blanks for making your own records, which is possible by means of various RCA Victor combination instruments, are available in three sizes. The six-inch blanks come in a package of four, giving eight record surfaces, for a list price of 95¢. The ten-inch blanks come in a package of two, giving four playing surfaces, and also list at 95¢. The twelve-inch blanks, double-faced, are 87!/;¢ each, list price. Thousands of people have had infinite pleasure in recording their own voices or instrumental mus‘c, children’s and grown-ups’ parties, and various other interesting incidents which it is desirable to preserve. Home recording records have also frequently been used in place of personal written messages, and in this way have extraordinary interest for the recipient.
