Not only were new nightingale records made, but the song of the thrush, sprosser and canary recorded. The thrush has a lovely song, and will rival the nightingale in popularity. The sprosser’s song is more rhythmic than the nightingale proper, and of greater volume. Married daughter of Halévy, the composer. His master work is Carmen, produced three months before his death, and now probably most popular of all operas (except Faust). Other works comprise Pearl Fishers, L’Arlesienne, many songs, overtures and orchestral suites. Died Bougival, near Paris, 1875.
