1? eS MeemiE United States is now wide open to for eign language films. A recent survey conEMiiemies! ducted by the showbiz bible VARIETY — proves that last year 718 foreign films earned more than 25 Million Dollars. In recent years there has been a dramatic change in the American distribution and exhibition pattern. Unlike Canada where, outside of Toronto, a handful Film Societies and ethnic group screenings, it is a rarity to find a cinema showing a foreign language film. It appears that the American cinema* goers are more adventurous than the Canadian, who apparently do not wish to bother with the reading of subtitles. It also seems that the American film industry is not strangled by monopolies and ‘free enterprise’ competition gives the cinema goer almost limitless choice.
