"Beauty and the Barge," as the piece Is called, tells how n Jealous husband, returning home late, and finding that his wife has gone out to sup- per, determines to take his revenge by pre- tending to be a burglar. To frighten the sup- posed tblef hi. wife persuades the maid to masquerade as her lover. Many complica- tions follow, but the piece ends happily. Monday next will find many new faces at the Coliseum. It seems that the lugger had num- ber nine on the Gill for two nights, and on the third night the programme was the same, so he did not show up until It was nearly time for him to go on. While he was away the manager changed his time to 8.10. in- stead of 10.16. Trouble followed, and a lawsuit wan the result. The International ArtlstB* Lodge has been fighting the case for Mr. Hearn since May. 1004. A portion of a letter from Marshall, the Mystic, sent from Copenhagen, under date of Sept. IS: "I tell you one thing that makes an awful hit with me. It Is the running order of the programme, It being changed about three times a week, and you never know when you are on at night until twenty tnlnbtc. before the curtain 1. ralBed. You may close the show one night and the next night you come In, thinking that you go on the same time, and you find that you may be down to open the show Instead. If you can't get ready In time you are subject to a heavy fine. I rather like the frequent cbanges a. the work doe. not become mo- notonous to you, but they could easily fix the time of the performer during the day. I saw part of the show at the Circus Variety Inst night, where the 'Boys In Blue' hold the feature position. Tbey are certainly very successful, and their six weeks' stay at that house will be one of the talks of the town." From Copenhagen Marshall will go to Berlin. It Is proposed to turn the Liverpool Em- pire Into a two-ahow-a-nlght bouse, but the suggestion I. meeting on all hands with >o much objection that the Idea will probably lie dropped. The Empire Is the only music hall In Liverpool with a programme occupy- ing the entire evening. H. H. Feiber, the European man of the Keith enterprises, sail, for New York Sept. -7. He will remain In America until tne late Spring. In justice to Mr. Velber, I wish to say that be was badly misquoted In an Interview he had with a representative of a London paper, and afterward reproduced In an American Journal. Mr, Feiber was quoted as Baying that the American performer was not careful about his stage appearance, preferring to put all hi. money and atten- tion to his street attire, and that the foreign act was Just the opposite. This he did not suy. Statements of this kind should be looked Into before used. The Grand Theatre, Margate, opened last Monday as the Margate Hippodrome, on the two houaea a night plan. It la under the management of a Mr. Uawtree. Next Monday the Tlvoll, South Shields, reopens under tbe management of Harry Burns. Bernard Arm- strong has secured a license for tbe Queen's Theatre, Qallowgate, Glasgow, which he will open on Monday a. a two houses a night hall. Lole Fuller, who Is now playing at the Wintcrgarten, Berlin, bad a miraculous es- cape in a motor accident a week ago last Sunday, She was touring la the Spreewald district, and her car was going about forty mile, un hour, when it ran off the road and down a bank and overturned. The car woa hopelessly wrecked, and Mia. Fuller and six other occupants were thrown out. The ground was soft and none of the part; were seriously hurt. Tbe Britannia Theatre, tloxton, was closed a week ago, but will be reopened on Monday next with a variety show, under the man- agement of Frank Macnaghten, who Is the director of nine provincial halls. Tho Bri- tannia will be run on tbe line, of the halls at Bow, Sadler'. Wells and the Surray, wblch are also under his control, Blchnrd l'ltrot arrived In London last Tues- day. Tbe trip across consumed twelve days and wo. a very rough one. While In this country mul on the continent Mr. l'ltrot may be reached through Tun CLirraa Bureau. The Lyceum was reopened last Monday night In a blaze of glory, a capacity crowd being present to take part In the event. With Its fine music and auperb excellence of the dancing, tbe revival of the famous ballet, "Excelsior," .cored an undoubted success. The dancing, the pantomime, and, In fact, all tbe movements, showed evidence of great skill on the part of the executants, and ar- tistic knowledge and direction on that of Slgnor Ugo Perfetti, to whom tbe credit for the stage management of the ballet belongs. The only fault to be found wltb the ballet on the opening night was that tbe scenery was below the standard established by other Lon- don balls giving entertainments of tbl. kind, injured tbe high tone of the per- he vaudeville portion of the bill Norfolk At tbe Academy of Music (Otto Wells, local manager) "The Hlval." drew well Sept. 20.
