THE CHEAT FRENCH, Presenttag Humorous Impersonations of the World's Noted COMPOSERS and MUSICAL DIRECTORS. Return to Vaudeville May 14. FENBEHB STOCK II One of the Beat Repertory Companies That Ever Played the Theatre. | fiBEAT ACT OF HEBBI FBESCH The Fenberg Stock Company opened a week's engagement at Salem Theatre, yester- day, and If last evening's performance may be taken as a criterion, the company Is one of the best, If not the best, repertory organi- zation that has played the theatre this sea- son. This applies to the vaudeville as well as to the remainder of the performance, for In Henri French, who heads the specialty section, the management offers one of the best vaudeville acts ever seen at the theatre. This young man is certainly versatile, to say the least, and the claim made for him that he could easily give an entire evening's en- tertainment, may readily be believed, Judging from the many clever things he did yesterday. There have been a number of changes In the personnel of the company since last year, the new players Including Miss Leigh De Lacy, a favorite locally, ana one of the best actresses In the repertory field; Miss Made- line Buckley, a former Salem girl, and W. B. Freeman, well remembered here for his good work with the Bennett-Moulton Company. Yesterday afternoon's play was "The Fac- tory Girl." and In the evening "The Parisian Princess'' was given, with the following cast of characters: Mary Greenwood Leigh D» Lacy l.'ancette Fontaine, the Farlslan Princess, Leigh De Lacy Alice Dunning Tessle Lorraine Rose Claymore Madeline Buckley Mrs. Greenwood Sadie Atwood Maddle Nina Wood Lawrence Claymore Lawrence Brooke George Claymore Horace V, Noble Mr. Claymore Wm. Freeman George Washington Outoslgbt... .Billy Walsh Sam Greenwood D. J. Hamilton Frecklea John Biggins In the dual characters of Mary Greenwood and Fanchette Fontaine, the Parisian prin- cess. Miss De Lacy was given splendid oppor- tunity for some very effective work. This lady's abilities as an actress are too well known locally to call for any extended praise. Sue has a most engaging personality, a splen- did voice, and withal Is an artist of Intelli- gence and refinement, never overacting and never resorting to the tbeatrlcallsma which too often mar the work of repertory players. Lawrence Brooke was a forceful and manly hero, and Messrs. Noble and Freeman did Kjually well the parts assigned them. Miss Buckley made of Boss Claymore a most charming young lady, and she and Mr. Walsh carried off The Comedy Honor*. The other members of the company all did good work In roles of a more or less minor nature, and the result was a very evenly balanced performance. The play was capi- tally staged and handsomely costumed. Whoever was the originator of the saying, tnat a man who Is a Jack of all trades Is master of none, evidently never saw Henri French, or he never would have said It. The latter Is an illusionist, juggler, trick bicycle rider, character change artist and Impersona- tor, and, what la more, la good at them all. He has as assistants a couple of colored people and a trick dog, and all contribute more or less to make the act effective, the comedy of the male member of the colored duo helping considerably. French opens his act with some clever Jug- gling ; follows with a really marvelous act on a single wheel: draws a very pretty pic- ture with rags; does a wonderfully quick change act, and caps the whole thing with some laughable Imitations of famous musical directors. The act is one of the biggest nov- elties ever seen here, and if bound to draw big bouses. OPEN TIME FROM THE 14th OP HAY. Address THE GREAT FRENCH, CLIPrER OFFICE, New York.
