This trunk mystery, nlthough by no means new. Is done so quickly I hat It makes a hit. The act runs about lifteen minutes, on the full sluge. «» » Laddie CHIT. The first American appearance of Laddie Cliff, n boy comedian uud eccentric dancer, was made at the Colonial lust week, and hr- was given a welcome that for warmth equaled any that has recently been accorded even tuo best known of the European stars. Laddie Cliff Is a bill, slender young fellow who secius lu be abuut seventeen or eighteen years of age, and he Is a supple dancer, whoso eccentric steps are away from the usual run. He has a great number of these odd steps, and gets great applause for bis execu- tion of them, lie sings numbers that arc a Illtlc Hague, but his manner of Illustrating them In acting and vocal expression Is not calculated to cniphaslsc any objectionable features, and his telling of how the various people Bat down on the tack Is downright clever. The audience at the Colonial evi- dently thought the Laddie would do, for they gave li I in considerable encouragement. He works In one. » " > Trlxic I'rlnunsH. Last Monday afternoon, at the New York, Trixle Priguoza appeared and went through lier perfurimiucc, or a part of It at least, un- der great dlrUcuity. She was suffering from a severe cold, uud It was apparent to alt In the house that she wus steeling herself to' Lei* task, aud wus really suffering. She opeueil wllh a comic song about "n perfect lady," and then gave a few minutes «t tulk that won thn house completely. Her crinoline soUg,\lu which she was gowned In white, with a big hoop-skirt, was n good ouc, noil brought her considerable applause, but she evidently did not feel equal to t lie task of attempting her encore number. She scored well, however, Jn spite of her cold, and held the stage about fourteen minutes, In three. - > '* "', Frosinl. "The Wizard of the Accordion" was what ilie programme ut the New York last week said of ProsloJ. dud he lived up to the de- scription. He played some high class selec- tions ou that Instrument, and received warm- ly expressed approval from the audience. Ills finishing number, a well known medley of patriotic airs, was capitally done, and he was forced to take several bows for It. Zamlook Company. A very flue act la magic and spirit (ajf* tery was shown at Pantora. last week, by tuo Zamlock company, one portion of It, la nir- tlenlar, having the element of novelty. This odd and thoroughly Interesting part of tho act was the one lu which were shown the "spirits" of tho table, the dram and the hat. A, small wooden <Usk was placed on a table, which was then carried Into the orchestra and placed In. the aisle. Questions wero then asked of the table, and the disk rapped the answers. As the table was a small one, •with no chance for a mechanical contrivance to he concealed In It. nnd the disk moved about without any visible help, tho effect wat startling. The drum, n small oue, placed in full view of the audience, then heal various auswers to questions, and n hat placed on o tray tipped answers. There was quite a little fun furnished la this part of the act, and the novelty of It njaUc the audience keenly alive nnd expectant. zntnlock. a man past middle age, bus a capi- ta) specialty hero, and his assistant, a "tiled" Individual, gives him good aid. The entire act Is away from tin- beaten path, and It made a tremendous hit last week. It rail about twenty-live minutes, on the full stage. ; ««» ybita. - At the One Hundred nnd Twentyllfth Street, last week, an electrical novelty wus disclosed- in Volta, who plays the part of a modern AJax to the queen's taste. Volta Is Scotch to tho backbone, and ho performs while dressed In silts of his bonny native land. After a description Is given from the stage of the voltage necessary to light lumps aud kill people, Volta places him- self In direct contact with the eleclrlc cur- rent, lights a cigar with his finger, burns out Incandescent uulbs, lights lamps, and llnally sets Are to several luiudkorcUlefs that are placed lu contact with his body. He then sits down to n little supper with the various young fellows who havo been In- vited to witness the act from the stage, aud the frautle attempts of these men lo dodge the electric current that Volta shoots about furnishes plenty of comedy. Volta concludes his ciiterlulnment In oue by welding together in cold water two bars of Iron. He holds these bars In his bare hands, thus showing that the current must pass through his body, anil they are securely wolded In a few sec- onds. The act umde n big Impression. It ran about eighteen minutes, opening on the full stage and closing In one. li t tliarrun-Mornn Company. A new comedietta by Mntilo Keenc, culled "An Afternoon Mix-Dp." waB given at Pas- tor's lust week, by Jessie Chiirron and Jcsslo Morau, and sieging that was Interpolated by these performers gave a dash of variety to Ibe offering. The ltttio plot tells of how two actresses. In wait for an expected engagement, are worried because the monthly Installment fur- niture that decorates their flat Is about to he removed because of llic non-payment of money due. They are la the midst of a "rough-house" with the man who la remov- ing the furniture when a messenger comes, bringing their contracts. The singing was particularly pleasing, and thb playing of the Misses t'harron und Morun also pleased the pastor patrons. The act ran about eleven nilnutes. on tui! full stage. <i» llorncv Guldlu. The return of Horace Goldln from Europe, after quite an absence, was signalized at the Colonial last week by the presentation of some Improvement's to his act, and the new things proved to bo on a par with his other work—which means that tliey were capital. His tricks arc all elaborate, tho one show- ing the bridal chamber, In which he turns an apparently empty cabinet Into u prettily fur- nished bedroom, with a girl In the bed and electric lights about the room, being ono of the most effective things lie accomplishes. He still uses the trunk mystery, In which ho tires Jeanne Prittislolt, who gives him very good aid, into the bound trunk. Mr. Goldln gives the audience plenty for Its money, and doesn't weary the people with any talk, which Is a strong point In his favor. Ills act ran about twenty-four minutes, on tho full stage. <«» tyima and Parka. At Ibe Union Squure, lust week, Lyons and Parks, a male singing and dancing act, had many praiseworthy feMures, nnd the aud 1 enee wus quite taken up with it. Both per- formers are cajwhlo In their line, the younger, a boy who Is nimble-footed and a bard worker, coming in for Mm praise for his danclug. The harp playing by tho other member of the team proved high class met most agreealile. The act Is of undeniable merit. It ran about fifteen minutes, in one. Julia Murlimc. in "Gloria." Julia Marlowe appeared for the first time this season us a slnr at the head of her cm a company, at the Adelphi Tlicatro. Philadel- phia, Dec. "'. when she assumed tho title role In "Gloria," a new comedy, by Jumes B. Pugan, a young Irishman unknown In Amerlcn. Whipping Is the theme of tho new play, for the action centres around the pun- ishment Inflicted upon a self-willed Italian girl, who plays pranks with her lovers until finally oue of tlieul determines to drive the devil out of her by physical chastisement. Tho plav Is staged by the Shuberts. under whose management Miss Marlowe appeared, the three acts showing nettings of Italy In the sixteenth century. Miss Marlowe Is sup- ported bv White W.hltlies:>y, Prcderlc Lewis, John C. Dixon. David ft. Young. Thomus I,. Colcumn. Charles C.
