The Ladles National Eqaestrlan Oonventlon, wbloh for some time past has been bronght so prominently before the noUce of the pnbUo, and excited so mnoh interest among those of the fair sex who possessed any eqaeitrian abilities, cams off on Wednesday, theSlh lost, on the Union Oonrse, L. 1. It waa antlolpated by many, even among those oonneoled with the management, that, as a peounlary specnlatlen, it would prove a complete fallore. The reralt, however, has shown that hi that respect, at least. It has been most sucoessfal. There wore npwards of fonr thousand persons assembled to witness It, as far as we ooald form an estimate, and the most sangatne of the projectors must have found the remit exceed his ex- pectations. Tbe dsy was remarkably favorable, a fine breeie tempering the sun's rays. The Grand Stands were crowded, and a very large proporlion of the fair sex were present; the asstmblsge, taken altogether, was a most respectable one. The Eierolees were announced for 3 P. M., but it was nearly 6 o'clock before the cortege of fair horsewomen made its appearance, tbe toilettes of the ladles having been made at Snedicor'a Hotel. As the cavalcade of ladles came riding op .the Ooucse, in their plotutefqnc attbe, their horeee, as If conscious of their burden of beauly and elegance which they carried; proudly caraoolllng,tbe scene was beaatlful la the extreme, exciting the universal acclamations and admiration ef tbe spectators. It la not for ub to describe the varied cos- tumes of the Equestrians, but only the exercises which they exhibited. These commenced with a cavalcade of ladies, eight abreast, riding half way round the coarse, pasttiie Judge's stand, and returning to tbe starting place near the south entrance. Afterwards came the Ftit it Manege, in which tbe ladles ought to have ridden in tarns past the Judges, and thus singly and separately ex- hibited their skill and dexterity in the management of their steeds. This, however, they did not do, as tbe fair riders were apparently anwllllog to submit to any con- trol or obey the Instructions of the managers In this res- pect, but persisted In riding up and down in defiance of all rules. Perhaps this originated from the circumstance of the track not being kept free from the IrruplionB of tbe spectators, wbo crowded the course in i>ont of the judges' stand, and made It a matter of Bstonishment that no accidents occurred to tbemselvefl or the equestriennes. One man, Indeed, wee knocked down by No. 6, with her horse, who, finding that there were no attempts made to olear the track from tbe intruders, commenced along with No. 21 to do so with their horses, and in a great measure succeeded, thoogb the latter lat^y, coming rather too roughly into collision with an irate spectator, had her bridle rein seized by him in a most ungallant manner. Tbe crowd, however, taking tbe lady's part, released bis hold, and he was nnoeremcnlously ejected from the en- olosare, for his unmaulIneBS anl brutality. Tbe only exoltlag proceeding in the affair, In tbe opin- ion of the assemblage, was the scrab race, (the hurdle race having been prohibited, and properly so, by the pro- prietors of the track, for fear of aocldeots). For this race about a dozen entered, the prize being a splendid sliver mounted saddle, worth SIOO. This was a magnifi- cent affair. The lead waa taken by No. 21, and she gra- dually Increased It till about half way round, when, hold- ing in her horse. No. 2 crept op to her and an excellent struggle ensaed. No. 21, however, increased her speed, and came past the jadges' stand a full distance in advance, her features glowing with excitement, and her hair streaming In the breeze, her hat and plume having fallen from her head In the struggle. She was greeted with tbe repeated acclamations of tbe spectators for .her excel- lent display of horsemanship. The jadges who acted on this occasion were John Clancy, William H. Tweed, B. 0. Demlng, Joseph Buseell and E. 0.
