The Common Council of Indianapolis, Ind., has passed the following ordinance regulat- ing the attendance of children at moving picture, burlesque and vaudeville theatres, which will be very disastrous to this class of amusement, enterprises If It Is enforced. The moving picture managers' association have declared their Intention to contest the va- lidity of. the ordinance If any attempt Is made to enforce It. Goneral Ordinance No. 23—lOiz: An ordi- nance for the regulation of Certain Places of Amusement. Sbction 1. Be It ordained by the Com- mon Council of the City of Indianapolis, In- diana, that no child under fourteen years of age shall be admitted to any moving picture Show, burlesque Hhow or vaudeville theatre In said city, whether admission Is charged or not, unless such child shall be accompanied Into said show or theatre by the* parent or legal guardian of such child, or unless so accompanied by some other person over twenty-one years of nge who shall have au- thority In writing therefor. Such authority shall be legibly written and signed with the full name of one of the parents or the legal guardian of snch child. Such writing shall also contain the full name and address of the person to whom given, the full name and address of tho child, tin: name of toe show bonse or theatre to which the child I'i to be taken and the date, and no sifch authority shall be valid except on the date so designated. When snch written an- thorlty is presented at any snch place of nmuBement the proprietor, ticket taker or other person In authority shall carefully ex- amine same and shall refuse to accept same If It does not comply with all the provisions of this ordinance. If such writing ls ac- cepted It aboil be kept on file by tho person accepting some until noon of the day follow- ing such acceptance, but shall be delivered to any police officer demanding same within that time. Sec. 2. No child under fourteen years of age shall be permitted to take part in any such performance as mentioned In section 1 of this ordinance. •Sec. 8. No moving picture show, burlesque show or vaudeville snow shall be given In any building situated within a rudlus of 260 feet of any public school building within the City of Indianapolis. Sbc. 4.
