Gentry, an actor, fifty three rears old, who served thirteen Tears in the Eastern Penitentiary In Pennsylvania, foe the killing of Madge York, and who -was par* doned three years ngo, was found dead July 24, at Volk T s Hotel, Eighth Avenue and Forty-second Street, New York City. His health had not teen good, and when be did not appear that morning, the manager of the hotel unlocked bis room and found blm dead In bed. Mr. Gentry was of Italian descent, and his right name was Donatello. He was convicted of the murder of Miss York on June 27, 1896, and sentenced to be hanged, but on the testimony of physicians that he was not himself for a week before the mur- der, the sentence was commuted to life im- ?rlsonment He was pardoned on June 17, 909. Through the efforts of George M. Cohan and other old friends, he returned to New York, and attempted to re-enter the theatrical profession, but his remorse for his crime had completely broken his spirit, and after one rehearsal in a part given to him try Mr. Cohan, in "Tbe Yankee Prince," he confessed he was incompetent to act. Like many others whom Mr. Cohan had befriended, lng years uncared for, and was made the beneficiary of an income through the kind- ness of Mr. Cohan. The body was removed to Campbell tc Kelly's undertaking establish- ment, at 325 W. Forty-second Street. Late last year he became stage director of the Harvard Stock Co., at the Cambridge Theatre. On May 6 he took the management of the theatre.
