Cal., the home of Essanay's Western Stock Co., 1b the latest project being planned by George K. Spoor, president of the Essnnay Co. Mr. Spoor recently returned from Niles, and reported the location one of the finest in the world for the filming of Western sub- jects. 6. M. Anderson has built some half dozen splendid bungalows that house tho play ere In the midst of a 1 vast natural canyon thnt stretches away on every side. The now studio -will be erected near the present bunga- low sites, and will bc complete In every detail. V. B. Day, mnnager of Essanay's Chicago office, Is confined in the Park Avenue Hos- pital, suffering from a broken ankle bono. Mr. Day sustained the Injury during a visit to the Argyle Street plant, last week, and though extremely painful, the break Is knit- ting nicely, and Mr. Day expects to be back at his desk very Bhortly. Mildred Weston, one of the most popular and charming members of Essanay's Eastern stock, was called upon to enact one of the most difficult and daring scenes of her film career, during the past week, while playing the lead In a comedy picture, entitled "The Discovery." The business of the scenario called for Miss Weston to be knocked uncon- rcIoub by a swiftly passing automobile, and the scene was rehearsed under the direction of Mason Hopper, the producer. Miss Weston was thoroughly in the spirit of the story, and when the camera was put on the scene 6uo bravely took her life In her hands and "CHAINS," Essanay's dramatic masterpiece, with Ruth Stonchouse and Francis X. Quickly tho scene was finished, then Hopper had the brave girl carried to a nearby physician's office, where she was revived with difficulty. Miss Weston stoutly declared she allowed the auto strike her to make the scene absolutly real and not fnkey, and Hopper declared It one of the greatest accident scenes ever portrayed. Pre- lim nary exhibitions of tho film reveal the accident In a most startling manner, and It is a source of deep wonder to all those who have seen it that Miss Weston was not In- stantly killed. DuaiNO the recent aviation meet held at Ieorlii, in., the Essanay Co. had two camera operators on the ground and secured some of the finest views of daring flights ever taken.
