When tho grand march started, there wero nearly- six thousand pcoplo in the hall, and everyone wanted to get in It at the sanio time, It was therefore absolutely Impossible to make any kind of a march out of if. A».\nn' farce, with music, nnd Ahoy." opens near Chicago about Ophelia Margaret Campbell I'larer Queen Isabel Mersoa There was a fair sized audience on hand on Monday night, Nov. 18, and It enjoyed a line presentation of Shakespeare's great tragedy. Especially Kood wsb Mr. Kellerd's fcrformance of Hamlet. Indeed, wherever bla excellent actor has appeared In tab role be has received praise from the dru- ms tie critics. He played w.th a fine under- atandlng of the lines. His rapport was excellent It Included: Margaret Campbell as Ophelia, Amelia Gard- ner as the queen, Edward Mackay as Laer- tes, Harvey Broban as Horatio, Charles A. •Htavenson as Klnx Claudius, and Theodore Boberta as the Ghost of Hamlet's Father, gave fine performances. The production was a good one. Other plays by Bhske- ■pesre are In preparation. It would be a good Idea to tell the Janitor of tbc theatre to pnt on a little heat, for It was very cold on Monday night in the Garden Theatre. Third Row. 1 a ■ KEITH'S UNIOV StjVARB. (ELMEJt I. HOLMS, MOB.) It was a difficult proposition to duplicate the bill of last week, but nev«rtheleas Man- ager Hogers hss a lively enough entertain- ment on the boards this week to keep one from getting fidgety In their seats. i.ntiKiiiin'M nteillgent ranlnea started things nicely In as clever a performance of lis kind as one would care to vlc-w. The tisual stunts aro well done, while a revolv- ing platform, with half a dozen of the dogs treading It with Increasing speed, caused much good amusement. .A trio of cabaret type of entertainer*, allied ss the Three Unseals, deserved a bet- ter position than No. 2, for they were one of th* hits of the bill. (Sec New Acts.) Morion Murray, stipforled by a company of three. Is eprlnglnir a new slangy act hcr;» tbls week. It Is entitled "Throwing a Bluff," and went well on Miss Murray's aUlllty as a dlslocater" of tile English language. (See Iiew Arts.) It isn't often that we see a good minstrel Jingle, but "Blackface" Eddie Ross had 'cm holding on to their seats «t the evening per- formance of Monday, and his banjo playing 1 end whistling Just about caused 0 email riot. (See New Acts.) Bert Levy, tho whistling caricaturist, scored bis usual success with his entertain- ing skctchwork. Tbo Idea of reflecting the drawings on a sheet at the rear of tbo itage «ir he draws was new to the Square patronB, and that they enjoyed bis many pictures us well as bis whistling was proved by the gen- erous applauso they gave at the close of tho act, Gertrude Vanderbllt and George Moore of- fered a number of eongs and a bit of dan- cing, and cased out to big applause. Th'a couple do not claim any vocal medals, but they talked over a few songs to good effect, and danced—yes. danced—but wo could enjoy one song less and a bit more of Gertrude's dancing abilities. Hue's two limber a girl with those lower extremities to offer eo little of her art. Big? of course I , 'The Coward" continues aa a perfectly sat- isfying drama, and Robert T. Haines and his company repeated former successes with It en the above evening. With the exception of two new "faces, that of Roy Falrchllfl, In the role of the convict who has served hiu term, and threatens to expose James Clark" (Mr. Haines), who Is an eecaped convict who later succeeds In business, and Leslie M. Hunt, who plays the part of Clarke's secre- tary. The rest of the company and the story remains the same. Lyons and Yoaco, in their Italian make-up, are aa good as ever, and tholr amglng and tnusle whs repeatedly encored. These boys are real entertainers, and work ilka de silk —nan coot. The riotous Four Rlanoa continue In that well wearing acrobatic monkey sketch. The work of the Iwo "monks" Is clever, but tbey Eull seme offensive "stuff" that doesn't go Ig. A scream of an act oovU be built around them. Tod. 1 Si ■ 111 LINCOLN SQUARE, (CHAU. KBUQIIHON, MUH.) Ten rows deen of standees at 8.10 waa tho condition here Monday night. 18. when tho new bill for that date was placed on view. Of the six new vaudeville acts which com- posed the bill, the Irish singing and comedy sketch of Ilroitgb-ou end Turner, easily car- ried off the honors. Both lu their acting JS^ W a w i W IP B they each displayed marked ability. The young woman was, indeed, a pretty colleen, and song nicely. Tbo male member of the net gave the old Irlih songs with n most agreeable, tenor voice, and their act scored a strong h't. Powers' elepaants 1: bough but two wero shown), were put through the usual routine of pachyderm proficiency in pedestal poses, bowling, with the additional stunt of going through tha form of 0110 endeavoring to civo tho other a "shave." Dorothy Rogers and company appeared In one of those Impossible sketches that arc 90 prevalent those days. A young man Induce* a young woman to pretend that they aro married in order to hoodwink the young man's rich nncle, who has been advancing him large sums of money, supposedly on "Bessie's" account, whom the uncle thinks 'a tho nephew's wife. But "Bessie" Is a rare horse, on which the nephew hUB wagered and lost hie money. The ftnnle Is not brought out very clearly, but the bringing on of Iho babies gave the sketch a big laughing finish. Tho Breakaway Barlows, an act on tho re- volving ladder that noods no Introduction here, was one of the best features of the Mil. There Is nothing better In its way nn the vaudeville stage, and many of tbo present day female athletes might observe the work of tha female Barlow with profit to them- selves. Kramer and Morton, In black face, sung ind danced successfully. Viola Do Voe started her act promisingly with a French Bong, and with a change of 7 E. Dlxey, In his morionrama-vaud- n " el , u »»yg5S3J 1 g.«g»»* but do tW , is Just a little different from anyone aimtllmSilair 5?.£ P ,s V? res Ing thla style of work. The dfffer- vt ^ 3 to ^a^osl?iK;'~ Vaud<:vl »e and matinee, Nov. 18. Tony and Eras Ballot opened the per- formance with their gymnastic and balancing stunt*. Both appenr in white tights and aro good specimens of athletic development Their* is an excellent opening act and was well liked. The Bison City Pour. Messrs. Milo, Glrard, Hughes and Roacoe, appeared In second place. The comedy displayed by the little fellow makes the act a leading one of it* kind, al- though their voices collectively are not world- beaters. Henry o-Iogue, ! else doing _ ence Is In Mr. Dlxey's personal magnetism. No one but n real actor could get away with tbc material nsed by Mr. Dlxey. But bb pnt over by blm It It a real pleasure to hear and see him. Dolly Connolly, with Percy Wearlch ac- companying her on a piano, sang herself Into high favor, using air. Wenricb's sonn Several selections were rendered by MUi Connolly, with changes of costume. Mr. Wenricb's latest success, "Kentucky Days," proved to be a decided hit In this number a boy. neatly dressed In black knickerbockers, adds nls presence and voice to those of Miss Connolly and Mr. Wenrlch. Borne very plea*. Ing harmony was the result. Thomas A. Wlso and company, In a con- densed version of "A Gentleman from Mis- sissippi," appear under New Acta, la this lsaue. Ed. Wynn. the funny fellow with the funny hat. and Edmund Husson, the English come- dian, banded out the laughs at a alxty an hour rate. When Wynn tells you he Is going to chuclc a funny one you get to believe It, and laugh with blm. And be la some laugher. Husson, as nn English dude has not much to do, but Wynn could not pull his stuff without him. "The Still Voice," with Sidney Drew, a play. In one act furnished tho serious part of tho program. In this sketch we see now a voice supposedly coming from a picture, finally acta upon the conscience of a rich old banker, and manes him in part correct a great wrong be has done an old friend, because this friend's son Is In love with bis daughter. The voice quotes from the Bible, and Mr. Drcw'j acting while the voice Is ipeaktng Is excellent. Real entertainers are Harry Fox and tho pretty Mtllership Sisters. Fox, in his plead- ing way, klda the girl*, and Is kidded in turn. A pleasing part of their act is the neat dancing turn done by the two girl* in short trunks, It Is always a pleasure to sec these clever young people. The bill was closed by Ella Bradna and Fred Derrick, In a bareback riding act. Sov- eral handsome horses are shown, and for a circus act it went fairly well, but they had a tough bill to fellow.
