Gar Steely, whose death was noted In our last Issue, died] Sunday, April 20, at the Lakeside Hospital, Cleveland, O., where he had been confined for more than two weeks, following an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Steely, Who was about forty-one years of age, was well known throughout this country and Canada. He had been with the Ulngllng Bros.' Circus for a number of years as press representative, and was, personally ac- quainted with tbe amusement editors of most of the newspapers in the cities and towns in which that circus played. Lost February he signed a contract to write a play for Julian dQtlnge, and he resigned from tho Blngllng staff to take up the work of writing It. About four weeks ago he went to Cleve- land to read tbe manuscript to Mr. Bltlnge. He waa taken 111 soon after his arrival and went to tbe hospital. His wife was at once notified and wont to Cleveland from New York. Mr. Steely had written a number of books nnd several plays, among the latter being "Hunting for Hawkins," a farce, and "The Storks." Tbe remains were taken to Watseka, III., where Mr. Steely was born, for burial, and the services wero held at the home of John Darrough (that city), the father of Mrs. Steel;.
