RIO FILMS, me. Sales Office Columbia Theatre Bide. O. IAN a COBB, Jr., Mgr. Bales and Publicity NEW YORK Strangely enongh, this first company cen- sor for the film Industry hnB himself been the object of attack by the most relentless and active of all censors, Anthony Comstock, who recently suppressed Mr. Goodman's latest book, r 'Hagar Revelly." on the ground that Its realism amounted to Immorality, and caused the arrest of uls publisher, Mitchell Kennerly, for circulating the liters* lure through the malls. Judge Band, in the United? States District Cour Jit vindicated the author snd his book on Thursday by handing down the opinion •hat the story was written with a sincere Purpose, and was therefore not immoral ar.1 should not be suppressed. So thoroughly, also, was Hsrry E. Altken, President of tho Mutual, Impressed with Woodman's sincerity and purity of mind that fi? j?!*™ * ne wrl tcr a handsome Inducement to criticise the productions of the company before they are released to the public. Mr. Uoodman will also exercise bis creative as well as critical talent by supplying the Mutual with big Ideas for projection on tho screen. PRESIDENT NDFF DECLARES HI3I- . SELF ON M. P. 13. L. OF A. SITUA- TION IN MISNKSOTA. In reply to a statement from Otto Bath In relation to tbe League situation In Minne- sota, which appeared In Tnn Cupper last week. President M. A. Neff gives bis side of the controversy <n the following communica- tion: "I was In St. Paul, Minn., during the State Fair and went there to meet tbe Minnesota exhibitors. I arrived in St. Paul one day before tbe convention, and ran over to Min- neapolis and met several of tbe exhibitors In that city, and In visiting tbo exhibitors la St. Paul I found the same sentiment exists among several of the exhibitors of both cities—that tbey were dissatisfied with the action taken by their three delegates. As evidence of tbe dissatisfaction In Minne- sota, after all of the members of the State had been notlded of tbe. convention, snd It being fair week, only fourteen members of the League attended the meeting, not in- cluding the three bolting delegates. "During the meeting It was shown that Minnesota only had three delegates at New York, but the records enow they voted eight votes from tho State, and when tbe bolting delegates were asked why they voted eight votes Instead of tbrce, their excuse was that tbo credentials committee allowed them eight badges. "It seems strange in the fsce of this ac- tion that Mr. Rath would state In an Inter- view that no Belt-respecting exhibitor could remain in the New York convention. There la one thing sure—every vote that was cast by the delegation that remained In the con- ventlon Wat bona Ode. "On my arrival In St. Paul I called three times at tbe theatre Mr. Rath manages, but escb time failed to find him In, and was told that be was at his studio, upon Inquiry I was Informed that he was in f.ie business of manufacturing and renting Alms. This wts quite a surprise to learn that tbe presi- dent of the State of Minnesota was acting In direct violation of the constitution and byp- lsws. However, for tbo sake of harmony, I said nothing In regard to the matter, think- ing It best to wait until tbe meeting of the national .executive board and bring it before them for*sctlon. and possibly Mr. Raft was aware of this. Mr. Rath was not eligible to be a member of our league, let alone holding tbe office of president of the State of Minne- sota. It would be Just as reasonable for Mr. Lubln to act as president of Pennsylvania State League or Mr. Laemmlo to act as president of New York State League as for Mr. Rath to act as president of Minnesota Stats League. "It is verv gratifying, indeed, that Mr Battt and his few followers bare released the league from an embarrassing position. C0MIU81 C0MIH6!
