' •» DeceMbeb 20 THE 3SOTW YOBK CLIPP^]^. 9 PALACL (rUKS THOMPSON, MOB.) rb« usual capacity audience was In evl- ^„n«There Monday evening when Frederick Dart ulUi r«K«> Orchestra got the alg. n«i thattbe first act was ready. A-he MU here this week la one of the best Hint baa been seen In some weeks, novelties Iriinre being shown. Tie headline position was given to Ilen- .i»tta Crosman and her company, who are Sttog for the first time Edgar Allan ftooirs latest new comedy. What success Ma* Crosman attained was due punrlpally i, her popularity. The skit Is a very poor i.hide. and but for the display of au Ameri- can flag at Its conclusion It would have Adelaide and J. J. (Hughes, In a new/ dance creation captured one of the hits of the' .TMiient program. Both are finished ar- Srts ta their line, using tbelr feet with ranch Brace and ease. Their feature was a donee called "The Spark of Life," a Hindoo creation and which was handsomely staged. Emm Barry, with ber aeries of gong studies, had little complaint at the reception accorded her. A song In which she ridicules vaudeville In general seemed to be w»ll liked bv the audience. Her best offering was called "Hats," being good for several en> C °Tbe Four Sylphldena, a quartette of hand- tome and ebapely young women, presented for the first time here a splendid aerial nov- elty (See New Acta.) Foster Ball and Ford West, In their origi- nal character creation, called "Since the Days of Sixty-one," were little short of a riot The act Is about the best of its kind ever seen In this vicinity, the work of both principals being very meritorious. That clever English chap, Chris Richards, danced, cut up capers and threw bis hats ■round to the amusement of the la'gc audi- ence Doing nothing that is really wonder- ful Richards gets away with some email ttuff In a way that would make an old timer sit up and take notice. Clark and Verdi, fresh from their success at a downtown house, had the same reception accorded them here. Their performance Is artistic In every sense of the word. The Marvelous Millers, almost the pio- neers In the present style of dancing, danced themselves Into much favor. The audience recalled them repeatedly, and as an encore' they gave a whirlwind affair" that was star- tling from start to finish. The Hartley Wonders, a man and woman. In a novelty Jumping act, are too good to open the show. Their efforts met with about six encores. The male member does the jumping, being fed with good, wholesome comedy by the young lady, who, by the way, Is a clown of the first rank. She kept the audience In good humor throughout their entire performance. Jack. LOEW'S SEVENTH AVENUE. ("jiKB" IUBIN, MOB.) Manager "Jake" luMn had a. well bal- anced bill the last halt of last week (Dec. 11-14), and good business ruled. Demarest and Doll do a good act. "Den .my ' is always "working" In this very much fea- tured piano act, doing some very clever laugh-producing falls while attempting to stand upside down for a specialty at the keys. The girl is "doll" enough in appear- ance, bat does little of anything but "feed- ing."' Boy and Arthur, .the latter of the old Bedlol and Arthur team, feature Arthur's ability as a black face comedian, with Roy not as good * Juggler as the former member of the act They break np considerable china, however. Lohse and Sterling are a couple of won- derful performers on the flying rlnjs and single oar trapeze. These boys work like lightning every minute of their act. ard the balancing upon the chair on the aerial bar by one and their pinwheel finish together made them thrilling favorites. _ We caught Byan and Blchfieid and "Co." presenting "Mag Haggerty's Father." here, and Uie "Id dtt" of Evan and his entire old tad character bit made Just «s strong an Im- pression as It always has. ' "Ntlrem" Is a "nut" card manluula'or. With his card tricks he Is assisted by a 'plant" and a stage hand. Nllrem Is by no means adding to his offering by working In the eccentric way he does, and he mumMea entirely too much. Pike and Calame, eccentric and wooden ■hoe dancers, got over as well as ever. They are good dancers and always please Per*. UNION SQUARE- (ASTHUB KLEIX, HOC.) House Manager Klein and his assistants have the knack of sending the bill through with a snap that Is pleasing. Nearly every week there Is a good bill here, but. the at- tendance at the Monday evening perform- ances is not large. : - •- - - •__ Of the nine acts constituting this week's program, seven are new to New York. Those who are known are Chalk and Saunders, an-1 Jack Norworth, The others, who appear vndcr New Arts, are: Meredith and "Snooz- er/' Hubert Dryer, O'Brien, ©eunet and O'Brien, W. H. St. James and company, Max and Mabel Lord, Wallace Ga'.vln, Pre- rost and Brown. The bill ran smoothly for Just two hours. Chalk Saunders opened at 8.82. His work Is pretty well known In New York. How- ever, his comedy character drawings In char- coal got him over. Jack Norworth was most agreeable, and In bis entertaining way held the stage for twenty-five minutes. He first used the ma- terial he has been using this Fall, and then rang a number of his old eongs, closing with "A Sweet Xlttle Old Fashioned Girl." Doc. s • Cecil Spooner's (J. Cone, mgr.)—OwInK to the terrific success of 'The House of Bondage Kiss fepooner decided to sire it again tbU week. The action of the police in arresting Mlaa Spooner was uncalled for, as she is to be con* sratolated for giving a play free from sug- gestion, a play meant to warn young girls against deplorable conditions which actually exist. The play was splendidly acted, and certainly rang tree In its sincerity. , Bronx Theatre (Harry Bailey, but.)— ■ Jesse Lasky's "Olownland," Bice and Oohen, Vanderbllt and Moore.
