On Tuesday, Jan. 6. at tho Hudson Thea- tre, Mr. Frohmrui will present William Col- lier in a new farce, entitled "A Llttlo Water on the Side," written by William Collier and Urunt Stewart. Mr. Esmond will act other plays while, in New York, Prob- ably his second will bo tho latest play of his own composition, colled "Tho Dear Fool." Eva Moore, who comes to America with her husband, Mr. Esmond, was formerly tho leading woman of tho St. Jnmcs Theatre, London, where, with Sir Oeorge Alexander, tbo created tho Important parts In many ylnj'H that were afterward seen In America. I. V. Esmond is known in America ni a playwright, and in England as an actor as well as a playwright. lie has written "One Summer's l)ny," played hero sorno years ago by John Drew: "When Wo Were Twenty- one," played In this country by Nat C. PLAYING TO CAPACITY. When tbo curtain roso on tho first net of "Hamlet," at the Ovcrbolscr Theatre, In Oklahoma City, Okla., Dec. IT, there was not a seat or any standing; room to be had In the house. The seat sale was put on flvo days In advance, and it took only two hours to ■■ell twenty-four hundred seats. Frod CI. Wcls, tbe bouse manager, tried bard for n matinee, but only one performance was given. ♦ «» THE! SH1PMANS RE-MARRY. Ernest flhipman and bis wife, who wob Helen Foster llnrhnm, wero married Doc. 18 In North Bergen, N, J. This second cere- mony was considered l.ocessnry because of a legal technicality resulting front the dlvorco of Mir. Shlpman and his former wife, pro- fessionally known as Rosello Knott " -J*** .As Is usual at this lime of tbe year, each mall brings to Thb Clipper letters from all over the country from, the folks at home; ask-' Ing us where certain companies and certain filuyera will bo during tbe holidays, in order Hat little tokens of the Yulctlde tony reach them, and In nlno cases out of every ten we are able to give the Information and gladly do so. . Hut tbe tenth case tho Inquirer Is obliged to forego Ibo gratification of bis or her .de- sire to remember the dear one with a little gift, solely through the neglect of this par- ticular one to keep relatives and friends posted as to their location. This condition, which prevails at all times, is strongly ac- rented at this tl ne of the year, wben it is but natural to get In touch with one's rela- tives and friend i. Frequently anxious mothers and fathers come to us, inquiring for the addresses of daughters and tons who, through neglect or thoughtlessness, have tailed to write home for weeks. The plea of "she was always a good girl" or "he was a good boy and never iorgot to write before,'* and the worry and anguish expressed la all the more pathetic because It could t tally be averted by Just a l'ne or two at regular Intervals. To The Clipfrb these anxious ones turn their request for information and It is la the hope that These lines will prevent the unnecessary heart aches that we call atten- tion to tbe cause et this tame, wben everyone thinks or should think of those wbo think of him or her. Spare a moment or two and wrlto home' «» » LOEW NOT OUT OF PHILADELPHIA. As a result of the stories published lately concerning the bale of tbe Metropolitan Opera House, in Philadelphia, and the giving up of tbe Chestnut Street Opera House. Marcus Loew comes out with a statement that he 1* not out of Philadelphia, but will be back there In the Spring stronger than ever. He will open two houses then and will have three or four moro in tbe Fall. In an Inter- view la his New York office, Saturday, be says he is no longer handicapped by any con- nection in Philadelphia, and will be utde to go ahead and provide the people of Philadel- phia with Just what they want. His statement follows: "Recent stories about the Phlladelohlu situation would seem to Indicate tbat I am out of that city for good, hot such is far from being a fact Instead, I am only Just beginning. Our only handicap was our con- nection there, and since that Is no longer a bar we con handle tbe situation In Philadel- phia as Phlladeiphians would like to have us do, and as we are very anxious to do. "Next Spring we will novo two bouses in operation, and by tbe Fall of the year we should have five or six. We have great hopes for tbo future In Philadelphia, and are going at it in tbo right way. "Tfccro teems to be an Impression when we Sot out of the Metropolitan and Chestnut nern House that wo agreed to abandon Philadelphia. This is very remote from be- ing correct, and the real reason for our hav- ing left the Metropolitan should be obvious to tbe public in general. We felt by severing' our connection with this house that we had a better opportunity for furthering the welfaro of the public and ourselves. Our reason for relinquishing our rights to tbe Chestnut street Opera House was that we were at no 11m» anxious, and fought for the houso only because we labored under the impression that a Bchcmo bad been concocted to get us out. When we discovered ourselves tbat tho land- lords were sincere In their contention, and did not wish ua to play our vaudeville, not be- cause of the quality, but on account of tho prlco of admission, we decided to give that up, We felt that they had a perfect right to their contention, and presume that if we had charged a price consistent with tho entertain- ment there would have been no objection, but we refused to charge any high prices at any time, and preferred to wale until such a tlmo sb we could procure a proper site and not bo handicapped in giving the public such entertainment as wo have faerotoioro at our own prices. ■*'» V.
