July -'5 THE [STEW YORK OLIPPEE 9 01 JACK EDWARDS. MUSIC PUBLISHERS TO RELEASE WEW SONGS. Tbe Backward season and the fact that nearly all the mualc publishers have been walilug to llud cut lust what the Music Board of Trade proposed to do, hag been the real cause for the lateness In re- leasing new songs. Now that things are under- stood between publishers, ynn can look forward to tbe greatest bundle of songs ever pal out In tho music world. Each publisher hags hatch all his own that he will try to make hits. All kinds of songs are In the bug, but you can depend upon It that ballads are going to be a big factor In tbe world of songs the coming season. Chas. K. Harris, who has, perhaps, led the world In ballads for the past t.vcnly years, bag ose en- titled "When Did You Write to Mother Last," that be b) banking bis roll on. Leo Felit who has bad more success In the past three years with this style of songs that any four publishers has again taken a Rood lead, with "When You Play In the Game of Love," Joe Mortis has, "In the Valley of the Moon," which already has a corking good start. It Is one of those homo songs that appeal. Uarry Von Tllzer can always be depended npon to at least f nmlsh a rip-roaring ballad. Will Von Tllzer has his staff of writers hard at work, with Jimmy Monaco to tbe front with, "Von For Me, Me For You." The J. II. Rcmlck Company has a half dozen or more ballads each one in itself a masterpiece that will give good accounts of themselves. "When It's Night Time Down In burgundy," will most likely prove the leader. The Kslmar and Puck concern have "California," which has been tried aud found to have the proper material. The Waterson Berlin and Snyder houses also have several that will make themselves known before many days. They are featuring." Fred. B. Havlland wilt bring forth "In The Town Where I Was Born," by Tracy aud llarrlnian and It has already shown up quite a bit in the last several weeks. Louis Bernstein of the Shapiro A Bernstein Com- pany fins Just released a new one called, " Ranch 101" by Barry Puck that win prove one of the biggest songs the coming season or I miss my guess. Louis has several others that will bear watching. Morris Abrahams will stick to his own original style and expects to turn an another, "Get Out aud Get Under." Fred A. Mills, with C. Wolfe Gilbert and Lewis F. Mulr have been hard at work finishing up several new compositions and will devote all their attention. M. Wltmark and Sons have Ernest R. Ball busy the past month and as usual Ernest will be found with another ballad of bus usual standard. Jos. W. Stern A- to., who bave been paying much attention to the dance craze the past year, and who have reaped a mighty harvest in this line, will release several new songs in the next week or ao that promises to eclipse anything they bave ever published. The Maurice Richmond Company also have several new numbers by Billy Jerome, Al. Bryan and James Kendis that will be sure to be in the running. Altogether, dear readers, the coming season I predict to be a world beater In the world of songs. \ THAT'S WHAT THE V ALL SAT. i J One of the biggest juyers of music In a J ) conversation recently, had this to say of > ; Tns New VoitK Clipper; | I it is the Only Amosbhint Journal that ) J I subscribe to, because it gives me a line ) I on all the new material oi tbe muslo pub- . 5 Ushers, and also gives me a tip on every- J thing pertaining to the music world. At a result getter tl can't be beat. JOE MCCARTHY 'WITH FEIST. To set many rumors at rest I make mention of the fact that Joe McCarthy will hereafter devote considerable time in the employ of Leo Feist. It will be remembered that It was In this house that Joe first struck it right, wltb, "That'a How 1 Need You," and followed It up with many other hit numbers. joe Is hard at work on several new songs with Al. Plantadoslthat Phil Kornhclser thinks will be world-beaters. Although Joe will notslgn up with any publisher, Leo Feist will have first call on his services, and he can b« found any day in the Feist professional rooms on Forty-fourth 8treet. Me invites hla friends to give him a call. ECHOES OF THE PAST. Bong Writers Contests. Illustrated Songs. Paying Actsf 8ong Fortunes* Bight cents per copy. Twenty-five per cent on records f Tbe Knights of Harmony. EARL CARROLL, WILL BE FREE LANCE. Earl Carroll, contrary to several unfounded re- ports, does not intend to Bign up with any ilrra, but will In future write for any bouse where his ser- vices are demanded. Knowing the field la limited Earl is wise in not tying himself up. The Music I BRYTl SIGNS WITH VO\ TILZKIt. After beiiig under cover fi.r the past three months our old friend, Ccurge Meyer, lias come to Ufa with the Uroadwar Music Corporation. Since aelliig out Ills Interest in the Geo. W. Meyer Com- pany h« has doue little or nothing except writing a soig, called "The lllgh Cost of Loving," which he turned over to Leo Fclsu Under the able guid- ance of Chief Will Von Tllzer, George Is most likely to come Into bis own. lie has already written a song with his old partner, Sam Lewis, entitled "When You're a Long Way From Home," that Is already on Its way to popularity, and bids fair to become quite a success. Ills many friends In the Smfesslon can lid him In tho Broadway lluslc nrporatl m's oSceS In the Exchange Building, ready to demonstrate lila latest numbers! •TILL TIIEY COME. L, M. Schopotr, a popular musician of Louisville, has written a new s >ng called "A Smile, A Kiss aud You." He Introduced it recently in that city, audit found much favor. BOB RTJSSAK'S PREDICTIONS. Bob Russak, assistant manager of the Shapiro, Bernstein Company, Is highly elated over his new offices, and says when all tho alterations are com- plete that they will be the finest equipped In the business. Bob Is also bard at work on tho new numbers by Harry Carrnii and Harry Puck, and think that "Ranck Ml" will be the best soug in the new Bernstein, catalogue. WHO DON'T KNOW NEMO! Eddie Roth (Nemo), tbe little 200 pound robust tenor singer of the Broadway Music Corp., is quite an addition and help to Moelnis and Vincent's staff, and Is Btire putting over Chief Will Von Til ser's new songs in great style. He 1b always on the job and knows everybody that Is anybody. BOOKING AGENTS NEXT. Moebus and Vincent look to bo real pickers of real people Tor burlesque this season, heating them all to It. Another big addition to their credit was the signing up of Ruth Curtis with Jacobs k Jcr- mon, fora principal part with the High Rollers, and also allowing her to do bcr specialty. It looks like the Broadway Music Corporation songs will be featured by the very best the coming season. BLOOM VACATIONING I Murray Bloom, the Beau Brummel piano player, at F. A Mills' olflces, la Summering at Brighton Beach. He has taken on a good coat of sunburn, and will return shortly to begin work for a bant Fall and Winter season on tlie new songs of L. Wolfe Gilbert and Lewis F. Mulr. MOET GREEN E11ENOS WELCOME. Mort Oreen, tbe professional manager for Edgar Seldcn, extends a welcome to all his friends to pay bun a visit and hear a bunch of new songs that his firm will release the coming season. Ills fea- ture song will be "The Rose of Italy," which Lyons and Yosco are cleaning up with. ALWAYS SMILING. Smiling Moe Kleeman, who is chief of the Maurice Richmond Music Company, la out for a record this season. Last year was Ills first as pro- fessional manager and performed gome telling stunts. This season be says he won't be satisfied until he hag made at least two standard hits for his chief, Maurice. His friends are wishing him lack. IS IT A HIT1 The Joe Morris Music Co. nave a new song by Jeff Branen and Arthur Lange, called, "Won't You La La With Me,' that Is going to prove one of the biggest hits the coming season if pushed in the right way. It has a melody that is hard to get away from, and has a typical Branen lyric, THEY TELL ME That writers will shortly own their own cars. That The Music Board of Trade will be a success. That Fred Fischer was speechless the night he was married. That l'hlt Kornhelser Is the greatest professional ' manager. That Mose Gumblc Is t)ie most tactful. That Max Silver la the most carefuL That Meyer Cohen is tbe oldest. That Moo Kleeman la the youngest. That Benny Borusteln is happiest. 37taf Have Oppenhelmerlslhe richest. Tltat Ted Snyder is one of the busiest. mat Al. Cook Is the hardest plugger. That Jimmy Monaco Is In the mountains. That Atlantic City Is tbe regular "try out song" town. That Three more publishing houses will shortly close their doors. J. H. REMICK IN SEW YORK. Jerome H. Remick president of the J. H. Kemtck Muslo Co., was In town last week getting things in shape for the coming season. Mr. Remick predicts a banner year for bis firm, and has Instructed his different chiefs In the New York office to let nothing stand in their way In popularizing tbe new numbers. Mose Cunible, who has charge of the staff in New York, Is also predicting ailjklnda of success tbe coming season. Mose says that seldom before .has the Unix had such a swell boack of songs. SOUNDS OF THE FUTURE Better Times. More Royalty. More Harmony among Publishers. A new McCarthy Hit. The Music Board of Trade More Soug Hlls. Composers Praising each other's Numbers. LYRIC WHITER* SCARCER THAN EVER. Severn! months)ago I made mention of the fact that lyric wriicrx were I*coining scarce. Now 1 wish to slate that there are fewer good lyric writers In tho business tban evor before. The reason that tncy are so scarce Is because more melody writers have been put In tho game. There Isn't a music publisher In Uto gamo that doesn't havo a hard time getting good lyrics, and Home people still think that lyrics do not help make a song. There's a good chance for several good lyric writers. OKI YOU ROYALTIES. Have yon noticed the Joyncss on the faces of Ue writers and the sadness of the muslo publishers lately, lis no secret, dear reader. Royalty time Is around again, and tbe fact that boilaesB has lieen no "sc.bwnck," has made It hard-pelllng tor the little fellows. DUCK A LOWNEY OPEN HBW YORK OFFICE. Lnclcn Dentil has l>een put In charge of tho New York office of Buck A Lowney, the 8t boats Music publishers. Ho Is located at the Hotel Calvert and extendi* welcome to all professionals. Atlantic City has tn* nicest bunch of "boosters" In the business. There seems to be a feeling of jealousy and bitterness among the New York boys that Is entirely missing In the T, Board walk Buneh." No harder or more conscientious workers can be found la any line, audit's a pleasure to meet such good fellows and clean-cut chaps as Cliff. Odoms, Fred Aurer, Jimmy O'Brien, Joe Gallagher, Km- mett Welch, Bill Jacobs (and his hard working "better half"), Joe Horila, Archie Fletcher, mil Hamp, Milton Stevens, Murray Wnlteman, Itennle Co rrnack and many others. May they all land big hits. QenialJoe Morris presides over the Boardwalk Song Shop early and late, aud haa a bis song in good old Jeff Branen's "In tbe Valley of the Moon." Just as Stern A Co. predicted, a bugo success for "Nights of Gladness," so we predict success for "Parfum D 1 Amour." HARRIS' FEATURE SONG. Chas. K. Harris's song, "Suppose I Met Ton Face to Face," which la arranged aa a medley march for baud and orcliestra, and also as a cornet solo with band accompaniment Is one of the special features in and around Now York, with the different band masters and orchestra leaders. This song*looks as if It Is going to be the big hit of the coming season as it Is a well known fact that it tarn at least two years for a Harris ballad to become a popular hit throughout the country and once it is aa established htt.itnevordlos. Note tbe fact that Mr. Harris's famouasoog, "After the Ball," has been dramatised Into a elx-reei photo drama and this song will Le reproduced In picture form throughout the wnole world and It Is pre- dicted by those wbo know, that "After tbe Ball" will become as popular'before tho first of next year as It wag some twenty years ago, and the same thing will likely Happen with "Suppose I Met You Face to Face. dial Organ.
