M, Rosextblxta, Mgr.) 1514 BROADWAY, NEW YORK CTTT novelty. Whittle plsvs tbe cornet while the dummy sings. It u a new one (or tUli kind of an act. The Three O'Neill Slaters went fairly well with a attiring and dancing offering. The ulnglng of the taller of the three was good. Picturea were: 'Tempest and Sunshine," "Buookle's Disguise" and Pathc Weekly. An Imperial moving picture song, "in the Valley of the Moon," ailed in for one number, an did Burton Holmes' lecture on "India." Big. HAMMERSTEIfl'S. (ABl'liL'li UAMHCBBTIIN, HOB.) The bill at Uommerstoln's Monday did not come »P to the class and speed of tbo previous week, although it contained some excellent material, including some new face* and three acts held over from last week. Conroy and Lc Malre, with their comedy black face skit, and Claire Hochestor, with her wonderful double voice, were two of Uie re- pealers, and won a share of the honors of the bill. Miss Rochester, In next to closing, was in the, right spot, for the weok previous in an earlier position seemed to hurt her. On Monday afternoon, after offering "Back to tbe Carolina You Love," on operatic num- ber, and "When Love Will Outlive the World,'* had to reply to the applause with a pretty speech. Possibly tbe biggest novelty act seen here In some time was Uaveman and bis "Kings of Forest and Desert," which opened after the Intermission and was one of the hits of tho performance. (New Acta.) Pauline Hall, In No. 7, was more than well received by the "regulars" and some "old timers," while Kathryn Osterman, No. 0, in a new offering, fared equally as well. (BoUl 'a New Arts next week.) Chris. Richards started tbe proceedings In No. 5, and had the crowd with his antlci, which are always enjoyable. Ed. Gallagher and Bob Carlln followed with their latest laughing success, "Before the Mast." Their "Burial at Sen" la an ex- cellent finish for their speedy talking and singing offering. McDavltt, Kelly and Lucie had a fine spot on the Mil, which they filled to everyone's satisfaction. Heine ? who was another holdover from laBt week, showed several more new gowns and offered two new songs. Tbe act, al- though early on the bill, showed Improve- ment. Freddie Welsh, tbe new lightweight cham- pion, closed the performance. Others on tbe bill were Alexlo and Dainty, English Duo (New Acts next week). Oh. I forgot, Loney Haskell Introduced Freddie Welch. Big. JAMAICA, (L0C1S SIDNCT, MOB.) From tbo appearance of things at this pretty bouse of William Fox over In Ja- maica, L. I., Loo Sidney Is making money at this point on tbe Fox circuit The house was minus many vacant seats downstairs with the incoming change of bill for tbe "half" opening Thursday. Sept. 10, and It vat a well varied smalt time show. The Skating Bear opened tbe vaudeville part of the show, and old bruin's perform- ance on the rollers was loudly appreciated by the big houseful of Long Island suburban- ites. Mack and StiltweU were No. 2, in • piano and song tarn; Ninas, and company followed with a spectacular scenic dance and song offering, and In rotation came May Wilson, billed as "The Bong Girl: 1 * "The MyBtorlona Mr. Russell" (which could be renamed "Just Nats") and be as mysteriously dark from start to finish as it Is. and Howard Chase, billed "peculiar comedy" (T). Itcvlews of all the above may be found under Now Acts, this Issue.-. Robinson and Le Fevre, in a comedy acro- batic turn, displayed better grace and fun than many are doing like 'em, and "Tbe Call of the North." a suburb five reel picture drama, featuring Robert Bdeson, closed tbe show about eleven-something. Tot. PALACE. (ELMIB T. ROOMS, MOB.) The third and successful week of Sylvester Schaeffer, "The Man Who Docs F/Vorything," began matinee of -Sept. 14, and judging from the amount of applau-jo he received iio could stay here for an Indefinite period. Fanny Brlce, as an added attraction, sang three songs in ber ustiul convincing manner, and walked away wltb a big hit singing "Aba Daba," the latest song hit on tho market Nat M. Wills, with a budget of new ma- terial and funny parodies, cornered the market in laughs. Sam and Kitty Morton, giving Impersona- tions of thcrafcclvea as they appeared some thirty years ago, cleaned up. Cecil Leati found it rather hard going owing to Mi songs not being suited to him. He was assisted by Cleo Mayfleld. Boltl Dno, in demonstrations of the' mod- ern dance, opened the show and bad an easy time of It The Ilearst-Sclig pictures, showing all tbe latest news, opened and proved interesting. DALE'S IMA STREET. I stopped in Dale's One Hundred and Six- teenth Stroet Sept. 12 for the matinee, for I wanted to see this pretty theatre and its V. B. 0. show. Business was fine and tbe show a good one. Al, Haus opened tho bill with Impersona- tions and closed singing "I Have to Stop raving" with an excellent voice that waa well received. Luce and Luce presented "Tbe Huntsman Muslcnl Show," which went Very well. The Brandywlnc Trio of singers did excep- tionally well, and made a decided hit wltb "Don't Go Away." The act is fall of life. Tojcttl and Bennett offered the latent dancer, but their "Dream of a Dance of Night Before" was exceptionally well ren- dered. The big act of the bill, however, was Min- ford and Thompson, In songs and talk. This 1« really a fort act and full of ginger. Their work was more than well received. 1 am going to stop in Dale's again. Sty. WADSWORTH. COLONIAL. (C. U. B0C1IEST, MOB.) The bill week opening Sept. 14 had many interesting features, which were appreciated by a large audience. The Mag-leys, man and woman, In a spe- cialty consisting of their own version of the tango, the iiesltotlon and maxlxe, were iu number one position and walked away with a fair sired hit. Both are finished artists in the dancing line, executing many tancy steps that seemed to be new to tbe patrons here, Judging from the manner in which they ap- plauded the efforts of this handsome pair. Genevieve Warner, looking as charming as ever, assisted by Karla. in violin solos, pleased greatly. Miss Warner has greatly improved her performance by Inserting sev- eral new numbers that went over very big at tbe matinee. Her harp solos and her slnglrg, together with her beautiful gowns, make It one of the most attractive acta in vaudeville. And then come Dainty Marie, fresh from her success at the Palace, In her wonderful performance on tbe ring. She Is without Question one of tbe best single women ap- pearing In vaudeville offering ber style of entertainment. Harry Cooper, in his latest skit, "Tbe FoRttaaa," assisted by Charles Henderson, was one of the hits of tbe program. Cooper had the audience in a roar of laughter ovcry second he was on, but they wouldn't be satisfied until he had sung "My Arvcrne Rose," for which be received about tour en- cores. Henderson made a very good straight and proved a very good feeder for Cooper. Eddie Foy and the seven little FoyletteS, in songs, danclbg and some good, wholesome comedy, had no reason to complain at their lecvptlon. Seldom has an artist received such a welcome as was extended Mr. Foy. As a finale tbe little Fovs do a fincy mili- tary drill that earned the approval of tbe large audience. Little Mary again excelled, rendering a song assisted by tbe. other mem- bers. Edwin George, the almost. Juggler, in bra amusing specialty, cleaned up. His many humorous feats were Heartily enjoyed, and the manner in which he does them puts .Jim In a class by himself. "The Meanest Man In the World," pre- sented by Allan Dlnebart and company, Sroved ss interesting as ever. The work of Ir. Dlnebart was worthy of much mention, as was that of Mary Dwyer. Graco La Rue, her first New York appear- ance since returning from the other side, fang a selection of well chosen songs. Her first, called "Art," was a bit off for vaude- ville, but she redeemed herself with "My Little Gray llome In the West," "Panamala,"' "Lovo and Springtime" and "I'd Do It All Over Again" were perhaps her best. She was In fine voice and rendered all ber songs Id her captivating manner, Her costumes were splendid and showed many new Euro- pean creations. Eaile Reynolds and Nellie Donegan, with- out competition as skatorial artists, closed the show and held them seated nntll the conclusion of tbe noteworthy performance. It was their Arst appearance in Ibis country in several years, and they received a big welcome. Morion pictures, which is announced as a permanent feature here, showed many inter- esting viewk. Jack. s i i 116th STREET. (JOB KAOLIN, MOB.) It was natural that this bouse should have been found crowded, notwithstanding tbe fact that It was Saturday night (Sept 12) when I dropped In here—hut consider- ing that the special engagement of Pearl White should bring in a load of Harlem silver to the box office that is most lost In- side the immense lobby that you pass through before greeting the manager of the place. I found Joe Magtln In the manager's office behind a big diamond pin, and was glad to eontretulntc him upon bis promotion from tack Btagc where he filled the capacity of stage manager for tbe past three years. Joe deserved the bop Into ■•straight" olotbes, and tticre'B nary a doubt but what he'll romp as sucecc&fully along In his new role as bo did behind the scenes. Another "sight for sore eyes," back stage, waa the finding of Bam Shirk, who cavorted as stage manager of Proctor's Fifth Avenue Theatre for many seasons rrevlous to that house's becoming a dead issue for vaudeville purposes. So Joe MagUn need have no worry upon bis head as far as doings on his old stamping grounds are concerned, for Shirk is 'way up top as a proficient stage manaver. Tbe audience last Saturday night were all worked up over Pearl White's first public appearance in Harlem, and the lights had barely flnshed behind her name on the illu- minated glass card racks at either side of the stage when there was applause enough to make any old thunder etorm envious. Miss White onli-red much more entertainment dur- ing her stay on the stage than other "spe- cially ergeged" scroti favorites have hi daily engaged screen favorites have In "public appearances." New Acts next week. Wnllle Brooks and his Rajah Girls was the "big act" on the program, and tnat In also reviewed in full under our New Acta. The Brandy wine Trio (three men) looked well In oress stilts, and Bang halt a doxen trios besides a well rendered boIo by the bscs. Their voices blend real well togcthea, and tbclr "going" was bi,\ M'imford and Thompson, straight with tenor voice and comedian, ringed up first as "stage hand" and then In ridiculous as well as re- pulsive dress suit. Usual Idea of the letter's butting in on tho stratgbt. Some of the patter Is Bnappy, and the laughs came thick owing to tbg comedian's "simp" way c-f working. All of their songs went over as well as whst else they dU. , Al. Hanae did nicely .n a monologue; Luce and Luce were musical favorites, and Wm. Boyce and company pr*rentcd a sketch that made a favorable Impression. Tbe offering of Tojettl and Bennett, dancers, 1b also reviewed under New Aots, In dancers, New Acts next week. Tod. <BD. OBNBTSIN, MOB.) For tbe first half of last week the pretty Wadsworth presented a well liked bill, Max Langslow with bis aharpshootlng act opened. (New Acts.) Mona Harr, who has been seen on the Loow time, followed. Miss fflarr does not seem to fit in vaudeville with her present vehicle. Luce and Luce closed with their novelty musical act. This Is a novelty act. and well presented. "Hie Huntsman's Dream" (with effects) for a closing number, was well ren- dered.
