84 TiTE New YORK CLIPPER October 2 ROSELARD GIRLS. 100 Ooatoaiea Seenerr Pvfaelpals 100 100 100 Knmbera lOO Clionu lOO Comedx Blncb Cooper'e merltorlons attraction made a bit at its New York opeDlng at the Columbia, Sept. 27, wltli Solly Wart and Virginia Ware fea tnred on tbe program. Mr. Ward, played the nev District Attorney in "Love, Law and Politics," and no sncli a District Attorney ever handled a case. His character waR (ood burlesQne. and with hla plaintive comedy tesembling somewhat the work of the comedian who was here last week, it was -orlgilnal in most respects, and did not fall to get ready response. As th£ Hebrew In the burltsque he cast hla lines In Mmewhat dlSerent faahlon, but succeeded again In catching a lot or laughs. His funny alldiog walk, was worked to good advantage. iilaa Ware played a I-'rench woman defendant In a divorce ease, and was right to the front with the ready French wit ond the quick eye and coaxing action that bad all her' admirers going fast. In the "Call for Volunteers" she played the "Secret Service Agent" for a little while. She had sevei-aJ catchy nomters, ond earned brackets In e«ch one. ^he opening bud eight ponies In grc«n, and ten •horw. girls In pink, nicely grouped for the opening ensemble. One particularly healthy looking lady reminding one of a keystone In Hie centre of die . group,' and they pat over some .lively action. Mr. Ward was greeted effusively on his arrival, by his office force, headed by Stella Wood, who w«s LDe chief scenogmpher, one that would break np the routine of any district attorney's office, with her Umber dancing and hlglf kicking. In ''My Typewriting Machine/' "On the MlssIsBlppl Shore," "Just Uke Your Dear Old Dad" and ui "SpleH aplel, Spiel" abe contributed excellent work. A], White played a good diaractcr role In Hebrew, as Isnatz Schulem. In the first part, and was a good feeder for Ward; also as the Jewish butcher in the burlesque, and could be depended npon at all stages to make the points connt Mnrray Harris, as the straight, was cast as the attcmey s secretary, and as such bad to sbig "I Lovt You All," a'so "War In Bactlme," "SjpleU Bplel and tiplel," Introducing dlSern^- dances with the various tough girls to several encores. Tom NoLin played an Irish couif polU-eman, right there with the nudge and the wink, and a red- headed simp In the burlesque. Lillian English, as the district attorney's wife, played the role convincingly, in the "emotional'' as well as in the easy stages, and her fine flgnre counted In the marches, showing up especially well as the Itecrultlng. lieutenant. She sang well when leadlnE "Under the American Flag," and In her specialty number about a cousin and a niece, Jeane Eamea, as Mrs. Schulem, looked attrac- tive, and was a voluable factor In leading numbers, with "Norway," "Garden of My Heart" and "Tulip Time In Holland," all of which were encored. The comedy bits were well worked up, Indndlng the flitting scene over the telephone; a poker game, with various hands formed by cards made out of the girls' dresses, In both stud and draw poker; the packing and unpacking of Uie attor- ney's trunk; the closed box; the dance by Ward, with a dummy female. A chorus girls' nun^>er showed singing and dan> cing talent among the members. Introduced by XIr. Ward with various comedy methods. Several pretty changes of costumes were shown, among them a olue bodice effect with pink »i gh*«_ showing up in very strildng style. The "Spiel, Spiel, Spiel" number was rewarted with several encores loo' the vartons dances In- troduced. Including a neck whirl by Mr. Ward and one of the "beauts" from Cherry Hill. The bull fight finish of the first part showed Ward and White as comical toreadors, attacking the boll, a aad-looking one man affair, who died easy. The girl bull fighters looked pretty in their red and black costumes. Mr. Harris led the number. The chorus Includes the Misses Flneberg, 'Stevens, Grey. La Mar. Burnett.
