314 CLOSE UP This film indicates a style which if developed systematically might produce another Turksib, but at present it is a solitary cuckoo in a commercial nest and it is clear that Muhsin's fate is to develop a Turkish operetta, influenced by Germany with Westernized music and a chorus of bathing belles. The first effort in this direction was // My Wife Should Cheat Me. Technically it is far superior to A Nation Awakes, but it is imitative rather than creative and though it expresses the exterior form of Turkish modernity it fails to express its peculiar and impressive spirit. Muhsin's other operettas are My Darling Hairdresser and As God is One My Word is One, all of which fulfil their purpose as good entertainment.
