At fourteen she became a member of the Sedalia Singers and appeared with them in New York’s Town Hall. After graduating from college in 1939, Miss Brice auditioned for the Juilliard Graduate School and won a fellowship, which she supplemented by singing in church choirs. She sang at the Presidential ; oe Inauguration in 1940 and has often appeared since at the White House. In 1944 she won the Naumberg Foundation competition, an award which sponsored her debut as a soloist at Town Hall. A few months later, she was heard in a recital by Fritz Reiner, who was so impressed with her voice that he immediately arranged for her to make her first recordings for Columbia. With an unlimited future before her, Miss Brice gives promise of becoming one of the greatest singers ever produced in America. While still a very young woman, she has already received the artistic acclaim which is reserved for very few.
