Previous to his outstanding success, he was the winner of the Metropolitan Auditions of the Air in 1940, and had been singing minor parts at the Opera House. Now he stands ready to assume more of the heroic tenor roles in the Wagner music dramas at the Metropolitan shi on Columbia Masterworks. In theyears of its existence, the Chorus has accumulated warm friends in all lands where it has appeared—in Europe, in Australia and in America—for its superb interpretations of Russian sacred music and Russian folk songs. Men in exile, singing the songs of their mother country, comprise this fine ensemble. Stirring, rousing, fervent or expressive is their performance of each selection, depending upon the character of the individual song. On Columbia Records, the Don Cossack Chorus conducted by the energetic Serge Jaroff, present a great number of their countless unforgettable renditions with the verve and sweep that have endeared their singing to millions.
