On the concert stage, on the air, on the screen and on records he is the symbol of musical America. Eddy was born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1901, with a New England strain from his father’s side and a combination of Southern Colonial and Knickerbocker Dutch from his mother’s. As a boy, Eddy was boy-soprano soloist in Provi. : dence church choirs, and at fourteen he moved with his tamily to Philadelphia where, in time, his musical career became diverted through economic necessity into the channels of newspaper reporting and advertising. Throughout his-short business life, however, he cherished hopes to sing and clung firmly to his ambition until his aspirations were realized. Eddy’s meteoric career indicates the tremendous advances made in the field of film, radio and recording. Through them, his singing has reached into every city, town and village. 500 * Not available in automatic sequence (MM or MX)
