MITROPOULOS, DIMITRI (Conductor)
Dimitri Mitropoulos attracted the attention of the musical world at his debut in Paris, when he conducted the Orchestre Symphonique de Paris in 1932, Since then he has appeared frequently as guest conductor with European and American Orchestras. In 1937 he was appointed conductor of the Min
Ormandy. Born in Athens in 1896, he first atie tended the Athens Conservatory, later completing Ae riutical studies in Berlin with Ferruccio Busoni. He was also Assistant Conductor of the State Opera at Berlin until 1924. Returning to the Athens Conservatory, he was engaged as conductor of the Symphony Orchestra at the Conservatory, where he first studied. In 1930 he appeared as guest conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and later made his debut in Paris. His American debut in Boston was arranged at the invitation of Dr. Serge Koussevitzky. The extraordinary dynamic quality of his interpretations has already earned him the distinction of being one of the wotlds foremost orchestral leaders.
