For over half a century the most famous of European orchestras, the Vienna Philharmonic is no more. Ruthlessly destructive of all that made Austria as well as Germany great in peace, the Nazis have disbanded it—or so changed its character, let us say, that it has to all intents and purposes ceased to exist. The restoration of the Vienna Philharmonic must follow the end of the great struggle in which the world is now engaged.
