COLUMBIA — WEEDE, ROBERT—Continued Weede appeared in the stage productions and in many of the broadcasts of the Music Hall. In 1937, Weede was engaged for the supplementary spring season of the | Metropolitan Opera, making his debut in Pagliacci. He was so favorably received that the following season he was engaged for the regular winter schedule. His performance in Rigoletto at the Metropolitan was greeted with acclaim. The critics were unanimous in their praise. . In 1939, Weede appeared in the world premiere of the radio opera ’’The Old Maid and the Thief’’ by Gian Carlo-Menotti and scored a personal triumph for his engaging and effective characterization of the Thief.
