WEBER, CARL MARIA VON (1786-1826).
One of the most important and influential figures in creative music during the first quarter of the nineteenth century. His extensive travels as a child and youth with his father, who was director of atraveling dramatic troupe, gave him unexcelled opportunity to study the technique and mechanics of the stage, gaining thereby a knowledge revealed to perfection in his two great operas, “Der Frieschiitz’? and ‘‘Euryanthe,” works which were in many ways epoch making in the history of the stage. (Compositions see: ‘‘Freischiitz,” and “Invitation to the Dance.’’)
