LAZARO, HIPOLITO, Tenor AZARO, the Spanish tenor, was born in Baris celona in 1890 and when only twenty-five possessed one of the great tenor voices of the operatic stage. It was while serving in the Spanish army, while still a mere boy, that the captain of his regiment overheard Lazaro singing one night to his fellow-soldiers in his tent. The captain burst into the tent, seized Lazaro and sent him back to Spain to study. His appearances in se fort Spain, Italy, Buenos Aires, London and Havana Hipolito Lazaro ; ; ‘ : records exclusively for have swept entire countries into adoration. In the Columbia Records National Theatre of Havana whole audiences have stood upon their seats in a half-hour of frenzied cheering. Lazaro’s appearance at the Metropolitan in 1916 was the event of the season, but probably his greatest single triumph was during a remarkable performance of Faust in Mexico City in the famous Bull Ring, where 32,000 people attended!
