Saffer graduated from New York University School of Law in 1967 and Phi Beta Kappa from Washington Square College of New York University. As Assistant General Counsel for Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), her duties include supervising staff attorneys in the Legal Department and coordinating outside counsel throughout the United States, handling approximately 500 copyright infringement suits each year on behalf of cos^osers and publishers of music. Prior to joining BMI, Mrs. Saffer held a series of senior legal positions at ASCAP. Mrs. Saffer is currently a member of the Executive Committee, and is Vice President/President-elect of the Copyright Society of the United States. She is the Secretary of the Foundation For A Creative America and is a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of Syn^hony Space, a center for the performing arts in New York City. She also serves on a number of other boards and is active in various bar associations, including the American Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association. Mrs. Saffer lectures frequently on copyright law, and is a regular speaker for United States Copyright Training Seminars sponsored by the United States Copyright Office, the United States State Department and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) . Mrs. Saffer is married to Brian H. Saffer and has two grown children. Before cosmiencing her career in the law, Mrs. Saffer was a professional ballet dancer with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and appeared in films and television as an actress and dancer.
